Benjamin Gibbs Obituary

Benjamin Kilgore Gibbs

Raleigh

Benjamin Kilgore Gibbs passed away October 27, 2017, in Raleigh NC.

Mr. Gibbs was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, April 30th, 1931.

Mr. Gibbs' father was an officer in the Navy so the family lived in multiple places. He had family in Raleigh and spent much of his childhood there. He served in the United States Air Force and upon his exit went to work for the family business as a future executive, Pine State Creamery. He would retire from Pine State in his 60's.

Mr. Gibbs met his future wife, Elizabeth Battle, at the Raleigh Little Theatre. They continued to share their joy of the arts through their lives and shared this love with their daughter, Elizabeth. He attended just about every performance Elizabeth was in as well as coached her soccer team. He never met a stranger and was always incredibly kind to all. Always wanting to lend a helping hand or a caring ear.

Mr. Gibbs is proceeded in death by his father, Robert Gibbs; mother, Elizabeth Gibbs; and brother Robert Gibbs.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth ( Betty) Battle Gibbs; by his brother, George Gibbs; daughter, Elizabeth Gibbs Savetman and son-in-law, Carlos Savetman; and grandchildren, Kayla and Aiden Savetman.

At his request, no services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Raleigh Symphony Orchestra. www.raleighsymphony.org

The memory of Ben just happened to cross my mind today, after all these years - only to learn the news of his passing. Ben's brother, George, married a close friend of mine (Mary Matthews) and the two of us rode together to New Bern for the ceremony, so so many years ago. Ben was a really nice and kind person whose memory will most certainly always be cherised by all who knew him. I'd forgotten about the fact that Ben worked for Pine State (my Dad worked there at the time I was born, now 81 years ago!). I will never forget those days when we were all friends and what a good man Ben was.
