My family and I were so sad to hear of Brenda's passing. My dad, Carl Campbell, my mom,Serena and my brother, Tim went on the trip to UK for the memorial dedication. My dad served with the 455th. Over the years I heard so many good things about Brenda. I live in Washington state and never got to meet Brenda but feel that in a way I had met her through the stories from my family who got to share great memories in the UK and also, the Army Reunions. She was an extraordinary person who will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by many. God bless her family with the good memories and God's comfort. Helen Campbell Jay, Buckley Washington

Precious Brenda! She came twice to McPherson and Lindsborg, Kansas to speak and share with the 35th Infantry WWII Division. Andrew, her father, was a member of E Co, 137th Inf. My husband, S/Sgt.Carl J. Frantz was Andy's Platoon Sgt. when they went to England, then to St.Lo, France.
Every eye and ear did not leave her dear face while she spoke to these heroes. We kept in touch through the years. The 35th Org. still is active. I will send the obituary to the 35th Division publication. There are many from following years who will remember her. My heart is deeply touched, my prayers are with her family.

The service for Brenda was beautiful. Pastor Prince called her an "artist", and I couldn't agree more. I remember many stories about her photography, decorating and travel. She was truly an "artist" in the way she saw the world and was a go-getter and lived life fully. I am so sorry for the loss of this very special person. Sam, Christina & Brittany... we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Our sincere condolences.

Brenda Scalf-Burchfield eulogy
I write here to express my condolences to Sam and family on the passing of my beloved American WWII Orphans Network (AWON) sister, Brenda Scalf-Burchfield.
Brenda and I first shared our thoughts on fatherlessness on line in May 2000 and continued communicating over the years via Facebook until her recent operation.
She wrote of discovering the uniqueness of her father, PFC Andrew Scalf who was KIA on February 27, 1945 in amongst other things that Drew wrote letters in purple and red ink.
She also wrote in glowing terms of her Dutch brother Adry Weijenburg who adopted her father's grave in Margraten Cemetery.
I wanted you to know that Brenda and Drew will mentioned in special candle lighting ceremony, which will take place at the AWON Conference on the Freedom of the Seas during a Memorial Service on November 3, 2016, ironically one day after what would have been Brenda's 75th Birthday.
May her memory be a blessing.

Brenda Scalf Burchfield was for me an "Angel on Earth". At Christmas 2005 Brenda gave me the most beautiful Christmas gift in my whole life. She brought me into contact with Phyllis Marcy Hughes. Phyllis is the daughter of Hubert H. Hughes, a WW Two soldier who takes his life for our freedom, just like Brenda`s father, Andrew J. Scalf. Both heroes are buried at the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten, the Netherlands. At that Christmas time in 2005, we had owing to Brenda the first contact with the family of Hubert Hughes. I am the adopter of Hughes grave (http://www.adoptiegraven-margraten.nl). It was a very special moment in my life; at that point my life changed completely.
From the very first moment, my wife Rini and I (Jurgen Mingels) felt a special bond with the Hughes family, Brenda`s family and with time also with other American families as the American War Orphans Network.
We now have many good friends across the Atlantic, it's just that we have a bigger family. Our special bond is sharing and honoring living in peace and freedom.
We will miss Brenda sorely. She will have always a place in our hearts, and we will never forget her. She is now an "Angel in Heaven", God is blessed with her.

Although we never met in person, we did get acquainted through AWON. For that I am very grateful. To me, Brenda was always a breath of fresh air. I am deeply saddened to learn about her departure from this world. But at the same time I am rejoicing, knowing that she is in the presence of her Lord. There is a song that I love to sing titled "look for me, for I will be there too". So, Brenda keep looking for me for someday I will be there too.

What a shock last night to learn of Brenda's passing from one of our 455th AAA Bn. veterans. I worked with her at 455th reunions in Nashville, TN, and at the memorial ceremony in Watton, England in June 2000, where (very much thanks to her and the wonderful folks living in that area of England) we were able to unveil a statue to the 455th AAA. She was such a go-getter and great organizer. God bless her. She is with her parents again. We will not forget you, Brenda!

Dear Burchfield family, although we never physically met, Brenda and I shared a common connection through AWON and Face Book. I had the good fortune to visit Margraten and have a photo take next to her father's grave which I sent to her. She was a bright, warm and lovely women through and through. Her enthusiasm showed forth in her face book postings. It was always such a pleasure to see her smiling happy face. She is with her parents now and in the ever lasting arms of our risen Lord, but those of us who are left behind are saddened by our loss.

I am so very sorry for the pain you are experiencing at the loss of Aunt Brenda. She was an extraordinary, beautiful, talented and vibrant lady. I know she was the foundation of your family and leaves a space that cannot be filled. Your Kingsport (Burchfield) family mourns with you.

Dear Sam, Christina and Brittney and family. Brenda was not only my dear cousin but a beautiful lady inside and out. I always wanted to "hang" with her when we visited Tennessee each year on vacation. We would take her mom's convertible she had and go riding around on the backroads and to Uncle Clifford's store for lunch. There are no words to express how devastated I am at the loss of such a special lady. If you met Brenda, you will never ever forget her. We were going to meet at the home she has in Chuckey this summer when I was able to travel. I pray that our Heavenly Father will wrap his loving arms around each of you and comfort you and give you peace. The world has lost an amazing lady, but Heaven has gained a beautiful, gorgeous angel. RIP my beautiful cousin. Loved you in the past, love you now and will until we meet again.
