Bruce Rendina Obituary

Family-Placed Funeral Notice

BRUCE A. RENDINA Bruce A. Rendina, former Chairman, CEO and President of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based Rendina Companies, passed away on December 13, 2006 at his home after a 17-month battle with brain cancer. He was 52 years old. An accomplished real estate developer, Mr. Rendina was also a highly respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, but he considered his role as a husband and father to be the most important of his life. In 1998 Mr. Rendina founded the Rendina Companies, which grew to be the country's leading full-service medical real estate development firm. He also founded Paramount Real Estate Services, a property management company. The two companies employ over 120 people and have developed, constructed, leased, financed and managed more than four million square feet of medical office and other real estate projects in 30 states, which translates into more than $5 billion in transactions. Mr. Rendina's projects include signature residential and commercial developments in the Jupiter, Florida master-planned community of Abacoa that he co-developed with George de Guardiola, as well as the Waterfront Clematis project in Downtown West Palm Beach. Prior to forming his development and management companies, Mr. Rendina co-founded another medical real estate development company in 1987 with partner, Donald A. Sands, where they pioneered the concept of sharing ownership with physicians in the development of medical office properties. He was previously Regional Director for the Southeast Region at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Over the past two decades, Mr. Rendina has made a significant mark on not-for-profit and educational institutions in Florida, with an emphasis on funding programs and improvements in Palm Beach County. He has made significant gifts to his beloved alma mater, Florida State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. In 1997, he created the Rendina Family Foundation, which has made generous gifts to Boston-based Massachusetts General Hospital and Las Vegas-based St. Rose Dominican Hospital, among others. Mr. Rendina served on the board of directors for Cardinal Newman High School, the Wellington Boys & Girls Club and Wellington Regional Health and Education Foundation. He also served as chairman of the Palm Beach County chapter of the American Diabetes Association's annual ball in 2004. Over his career he has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Ernst & Young, the Distinguished Citizens Award by the Boy Scouts of America, and the Heroes in Medicine Award by the Palm Beach County Medical Society, an organization which also recognized him as a Grand Contributor in 2005. Most recently, he was recognized as a 2007 Ultimate CEO by the South Florida Business Journal. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Marjorie; and their three sons, Richard 26, Michael 23 and David 18. He is also survived by his mother, Rose, of West Palm Beach and his brother Richard, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 15 from 1 to 4pm and 6 to 9pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 1201 S. Olive Ave in West Palm Beach. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12pm on Saturday, December 16 at the Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 9999 N. Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens, and the committal will immediately follow at 2:30pm at Gardens Memorial Park, 4103 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton. In memory of Bruce, his family encourages friends and colleagues to contribute to the Rendina Family Foundation or to their own favorite charities, and continue his quest to enhance the lives of others by making a difference in your own community. March 31, 2014

I just ran my first 5K and it yesterday March 30th, 2014 without knowing that The Rendina family was behind it all. I was telling my gal about what a great man Bruce was, I was telling her of man of whom I made a passing acquaintance with many years ago. I shared a plane ride up to Tally for a game with Bruce and a couple of you boys. I was remembering the time he spoke at the Real Estate Conference at FSU. Mostly I was telling her that I think he was the best a man could be.

Marji,Rich. Trish, Mike and Dave,
I tore in to your xmas card as I have for nearly twenty years took hold of the star to view the picture and was delighted to see the wedding photo! Then I went looking, for Bruce in the photo. At first I just sat there with different scenerios playing in my head. Holding on to....he must be taking the photo. But that was wishful thinking. Thinking brought me here, sadly. It seems as though it was yesterday we were rolling up the childrens sleeping bags.He will live on in every smile in every good deed. Those who the Gods deem good die young.
Lovingly, Diane Tanger, Marietta, GA.

Haven't been there for you recently, as I am sure you are aware as to why.
Good news! I've moved to Central Florida to be closer to my wonderful children, however I still think of the extraordinary times we shared over the years. The Bahamas, Las Vegas, the parties, et al....Marji being written up in the local paper at a birthing class, Bruce walking into our Weston house and saying "Holy Sh--! I can't bring Marji here EVER...she'll want the same thing. Alas, he went onto build an empire and a mansion three times the size of ours to boot. The ex and I got divorced, thank God. I'm extremely happy. Tiffany, David and Taylor are happy.
Good for you Bruce...with only a Bachelor's Degree and total determination...you became the ultimate entreprenuer *as we all know! Years ago I mentioned to you that my brother-in-law made a profound statement to me..."Energy makes Money." I told you that in the 1977. You laughed.
I still think of you often. You were such a dear friend and advisor to both of us.
I miss Ms. Rose. I miss Bruce and the boys. I Love and miss you all.
Just found out that Richard became a husband! So happy for him and his new bride. God bless them on their new endeavors.
All the Best and Love to all.

Dear Marji and Boys,

Marji and sons,
I still have my copy of Florida State Times Nov. 2006 Alumni News. Never have I been so proud of someone I grew up with as when I read all about your family's generous contribution to the FSU Hospitality Program. What a wonderful gift to the world's future leaders. I have the copy right here with me as I write. I can still picture Bruce walking across campus in 1975 between classes as I wave to him. I think we were very few NEHS grads at FSU, most went to that other school.. But how fortunate you did not! And the 30th NEHS Reunion was a memorable experience for me because we seemed to have more time to really visit and I did so enjoy that with both of you. I know your family is very proud of Bruce. Chuck and I do send our most heartfelt condolences your way. Bless you all- Meredith Millen Deal

Dear Marji and sons-
Word just reached the North Woods about Bruce's passing. I am just an acquaintance from high school days and subsequent reunions. But Bruce was a larger-than-life character that always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. Years would pass, but at a NE High reunion, Bruce had the easy charm that made you feel as if you had chatted last week. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as you carry on. I am sorry for your loss. May God hold you closely.

Marji-When Bruce was still with DASCO he built our new building for my brother Carl and his partners--I had the first floor and Bruce frequently asked colleagues to come by and see our space. I told them he delivered the building on time and with style--and I would be proud to be associated with any project he started. He always appreciated that. Years later, when we were both at Phymatrix and Bruce's star was rapidly rising--he took time to discuss future employment plans with me and he always expressed interest in my well being--I never felt he forgot everyone who watched his spectacular success with pride. Bruce got things done-others are good at dreaming, thinking, etc--Bruce could take a concept and make it happen--I will miss him and our community will feel his loss.

Marji, Rich, Mike and David-
"God saw Bruce was getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered 'Come to me.' With tearful eyes you watched him and saw him pass away. Although you loved him dearly, you could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke your hearts to prove to you He only takes the best." Bruce was truly one of a kind and his passing has left a hole in many hearts. We will all miss him.

Thank You

To a truly wonderful family,
I think I speak for a lot people when I say, "your family and your values have inspired many". We all have a destiny, a path we are meant to follow. This is only testament of that fact. You have only gained strength from this loss. Now it is time to continue with what was started and pass on the wealth of knowledge that Mr. Bruce Rendina has passed on to all of us... I choose to celebrate his life. Thank you Bruce and the wonderful family he greatly contributed to creating... May all your family success continue.

We stumble with words, trying pathetically and desperatly to ease your pain and in so doing, somehow trying to reduce our own; it doesn't seem to work.

To the entire Rendina family,

My deepest sympathy to each and everyone of you on the loss of Bruce. While very difficult now to get through the intensity of your sadness, the blessings and contributions Bruce made in so many ways to such a broad contingent of people and causes will become a greater source of sstrength and inspiration to you in time. There are so many folks who will never live to have the chance to give the way Bruce did--how proud and enriching is that!!

I had the pleasure of knowing Bruce from a business perspective. He was truly an innovator, visionary and persevering leader who was respected , admired and liked -by so many people. He will be greatly missed.
