We had the honor of meeting Bryan in the summer of 1973 when we were training at Brookdale Hospital in New York. We became friends. As a young man, Bryan had so many admirable qualities. Honesty, integrity, loyalty, level-headedness, focus, intellegence, humor, and a caring heart. He was truely a role model to all of us who knew him and learned beside him. Through the years that we have known Bryan, there is nothing that has changed our opinion. The consistancy of his character was remarkable.
We had the opportunity to speak to Bryan in July. Sometimes when we called he was just too tired to speak. However, on this Sunday afternoon we had a chance to speak. The amazing courage of this wonderful man was remarkable in that he never complained or bemoaned his disease.
Why the Lord takes some home before others is a mystery that we on earth do not understand. We will miss you terribly, but we know that you are in Heaven and look to the day when we can be with you again.
We pray for Karen, Jennifer, Erin, Pam, and the entire family daily.

I started working for Dr. McSweeney in April of 1992. I had worked for other doctors, who were very difficult to work for, so this time around, I was looking for a perfect Boss and I found this with Dr. McSweeney. When it came time to choose between the two doctors, it was not a difficult decision. I knew who my choice was. My only regret--that he did not live longer - but I guess this was not to be. We all felt like his extended family. Whenever we had breakfest/lunches at work with food all day long (one of his favorite days), Dr. McSweeney was a frequent visitor to the kitchen, pocketing a few cookies for later. His Christmas gift to us last year was a train trip to New York City to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall and have lunch. It was a great time, little did we know it would be our last Christmas at his office. We all miss you. You see, he spoiled all of us and we are all having a hard time finding that perfect job and perfect Boss again. It was wonderful to meet his daughters who we heard so much about and his brothers and sisters and hear all the wonderful stories. I can see why he was truly so loved and will be missed by so many. To the McSweeney family:
My deepest sympathy to all of you and may you come to peace as you grieve your loss. I am reminded of family picnics at "Uncle Paul's" in Falmouth and at "Margaret and Marty's" open house at Christmas (the girls were little then) & how the aunts, uncles and cousins just loved to see Bryan. The aunts would often tell stories about their nieces and nephews and I remember hearing several about Bryan when he was in a carriage or as a toddler(you just have to love those aunts, they would correct each other on details, and they cherished their memories)...they raved about Bryan.....What stands out in my mind most is how much he adored his family, he was very proud of all of you. I'm glad to have known him. You are a wonderful and loving family...Please know that I share in your sorrow. Love, Joanne

It was a priviledge and an honor to work for such a wonderful Doctor and man. He will be sadly missed by all who know him.
I remember when I first started working for him, I was so intimidated by him that I would not go into his office to talk to him. Once I grew to know him more I realized what a big "Teddy Bear" he was. His brother could not have said it any better.
It amazed me that he never lost his sense of humor, even over the last few weeks his humor and spirit shone through.
We Love and Miss you!!!!

One of the things that stuck me most during Bryan's funeral mass was the number of people Bryan's life touched. So many people with wonderful memories of his life and his generous spirit and abundant love. An incredible testimonial to the kind, loving man Byan was. My own personal memory of Bryan will be his ability to blindside me with his one liners. His humor made me feel comfortable and welcomed everytime I was with him. His love and devotion to his family even with a demanding job is an example for all our sons. Bryan will live on in our memories forever and so his time on this earth will serve us all well. Karen, Jen, Erin and Pam may you find peace and comfort in those memories.

My Brother-In-Law/Father
My 1st memories of Bryan are at the age of four. He would let me drive to the lighthouse while I was sitting on his lap. Later, he would buy me ice cream. I remember the summers at Sandhills hanging out with Karen and Bryan with their wonderful friends. Christmas'at the
McSweeney home in Newton are fond
memories. There was always a warm comfortable feeling with Bryan's family.
At the age of 13 my mother passed
away. Karen and Bryan took legal custody of me. Bryan always treated me like a daughter. It was a difficult time in my life. I was also difficult. But Bryan and Karen
understood and supported me. I became a stronger person because their unconditional love.
One of my proudest moments was when Bryan walked me down aisle on my wedding day. He was the father I never had.
My husband Rick and Bryan are alot alike. Rick and I have two children and Bryan though the world of them. Bryan would light up when he would see them. Hannah and Nick enjoyed Bryan for his playful tricks.
I had the privilege of driving Bryan to his treatments. He was a very strong and brave person during these difficult times. True to Bryan's personality, he never complained. There were days when he could talk for hours, others when he would sleep. It was a great honor to be able to comfort and help him.
Bryan you were there for me during good and bad times. You never gave up on me. You were the most kind and gentle man I have ever known. I miss you so.
Thank you Bryan, Karen,Jenn and Erin for making me such a huge part of your lives.
I Love You, Pam

BRYAN WAS A BEAUTIFUL, GENEROUS AND KIND PERSON WHO WILL BE REMEMBERED ALWAYS! Karen, Jen, Erin, Pam and all of Bryan's family, Our heart goes out to you. Bryan's service was absolutely beautiful. It touched me, personaly, very deeply. Whenever I picture Bryan, I remeber Pam and Rick's wedding. And I see a very loving and proud father walking Pam down the aisle. Then Bryan giving Pam a special kiss, a blessing, for Pam to start her new life with her new husband. I will always hold that vision with me in my heart, forever.
We Love You and God Bless You

Bryan's memorial service was a beautiful testimony to the life he led. When discussing the grief we all felt, we reminded our children to learn something from this sad experiance. That is, to take just one of Bryan's fine qualities of humility, gentleness, grace, generousity, or kindness, and make an effort to incorporate it everyday as he would have. This is Bryan's legacy to all of us.

I was a young girl when I knew Bryan McSweeney. I remember stopping by their house and saying "Do you know who I am?" and of course they did! Karen would say: "Bryan...look who is here!" and I remember him sitting in his favorite chair-he loved that chair! The service was beautiful and very touching and I'm sure that he is happy now-in heaven.

For all the love and support we have received during this most difficult time, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. He was the love of my life for 35 years (we were married for 29--those Irish men take their time). I am blessed to have been called Mrs. Bryan F. McSweeney

Dear Karen,Jen, Erin, and Pam, Irene will write separately but I wanted to share with you an image I have, planted by a cousin who is a priest and who has given funeral sermons. he speaks of the gentleness of God like the gentleness of a mother who is holding her small child in her lap--perhaps in church. The wrestlessness of the child is no bothere to the mother (or father) just as God loves us. This priest's suggestion is that God is as we see him each day in the gentleness of parents and in the gentleness of Bryan's life. You might say that to meet God some day, as we all will, will be like having met Bryan. I enjoyed him and you immensely and only wish we could have done more together. Our best to all of you. I trusted Dr. McSweeney wholeheartedly with my dental care. The first time I was referred to him for an extraction, he told me that the tooth could be saved. I always appreciated his honesty, kindness, and gentleness. My condolescenses to his family and staff.

Dr. McSweeney treated all three of my children one or more times over the past few years. He was so kind and caring. With grace, humor and sensitivity he dealt with their fears and questions. He treated them and me with respect and kindness. I want to express my sincere regrets for your loss.

As Bryan leaves this world for another, may God help us all to remember that the endless love that welcomed him the day he was born, is now welcoming him to his new life. To you-- Karen, Jenn, and Erin.....a deep bow. You are the most remarkable women I know. I love you very much.

Members of our family were fortunate to have Dr. McSweeney as a dentist when badly needed. He was kind, gentle and caring. Our deep regards to his family. It was a priviledge meeting him.
