CARLA JOHNSTON Obituary

Carla Jean Johnston, age 53, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 22, 2012. She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Mendenhall, her mother, Carolyn France, and her aunt, Barbara Mendenhall. She is survived by her husband, Ernest A. Johnston; her daughter, Carly Michelle Johnston; her brother, Ronnie Mendenhall (Bonita) of Brandon MS; her sister, Teresa Padgitt (Chris) of Walls MS; two nieces, Courtney Agner and Kelli Mendenhall; a nephew, John Christopher O’Neal; stepmother, Nola Mendenhall; an uncle, Roy Mendenhall, and several other aunts, uncles, and cousins. Carla was a member of Faith Baptist Church and had an active tract ministry where she made beautiful bookmarks with Bible verses and handed them out to all she met as she would share the love of Jesus. Her favorite Bible verse was Romans 8:28. Carla was employed as an Area Unit Coordinator with Baptist Hospital Collierville. Carla believed in giving back to her community as a volunteer with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Life Choices. Carla had a winsome personality and never met a stranger, making friends with all she met. She had the gift of mercy and encouragement to others. She was a very giving friend to all who knew her. Carla will be greatly missed and her absence will leave a great void to family and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Visitation will be held at Faith Baptist Church, 3755 N. Germantown Rd., from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 25. The funeral will be at the church on Friday at 10 a.m. and the burial after the service at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Rd. I miss you. I think of you all the time.

I put away some of your things today. Honestly Carla, how much blistex does one really need? I am going to put out a small Christmas tree on your grave this week. I know how much you love Christmas. It will have as many red ornaments as it will hold. I know you will be there with me as I decorate it. Your on line guest book is about to end so I am going to print it and put the entries in my Bible, you were loved so much, and still are. I miss you so much, every day I miss you. I love you Carla. Forever my big sis.

Carla was the most precious Christian woman that I have ever met. We met at church and she went through the sickness and death of my 3 year old daughter "Alexandria". Carla always said the most precious prayers. Just being near her made you feel closer to God. I don't think I will ever meet a more Godly woman. Now she can take care of my daughter until I get ti Heaven. Earnie and Carley you and all of Carla's family will be in my prayers. God just got another Angel on October 22. Carla, we love you and we will all miss you!!! Beth Kissell Keene

To the Johnston family, I didn't know Carla as well as I wish, but my son went to school with Carly. The times I did spend with her, she was a truly gracious, sweet spirited Christian woman. Carly and family, Chris and I are praying for you all for God's peace through this very difficult time. God had a special plan and reason for bringing her to her heavenly home. May God bless your family in this time of sorrow.

Carla was genuine. She was compassionate. Her infectious smile was the first thing you noticed. You soon realized after talking to Carla that she loved life, even when life got the best of her. Our friendship grew as our daughters grew. The Zoo,Starbucks and Cracker Barrel became regular hangouts. Endless birthday parties, the first to arrive the last to leave. Conversations about everything! What the world has lost, is heavens gain. Carla will and always be a true and dear mother, friend and servant of our Savior.

Ernest,
Lisa and I are so very sad for your loss. Anxiety and depression are tools of darkness robbing us of the joy in our Lord and life itself. I know my years of depression were very damaging and I begged God for renewal and peace. Ernest please do remember the peace of God at this time. He loves you so very much. He cares for you. You are not alone. Saints are praying for you around the world. Fall into His everlasting arms and rest awhile in His care.

My dear Carla the last 72 hours have been undescrible for many of your family and friends. I can not put into words the feelings I have. I love you! I just keep thinking "why". I know God has a plan and we are not to question that. We were not ready for you to go be with your sweet Jesus. I will try to find comfort knowing that you are in his arms. We hold you close to our hearts, you are missed and loved. Love you always and forever, until we meet again.

The moment I first met Carla, I knew she was a Christian. She had an incredible love and compassion for others, especially children and those that were hurting. She loved Jesus most of all and shared His love with all she met. We all have a story to tell about the first time we met Carla and the wonderful things she did to bless our lives. I miss my sweet friend so very much, but I am thankful for the the time God shared Carla with us on earth. We will never know how many lives she touched until we get to Heaven.
