CAROL LOCASCIO GIBBS

1928 - 2013

GIBBS, Carol LoCascio Of Arlington, Massachusetts died peacefully after a lengthy illness on October 14, 2013 at the age of 85. She was born on March 3, 1928 to Ned and Mary (Murphy) LoCascio in Boston. She attended Marycliff Academy and graduated with honors from Radcliffe College in 1950. Carol married her college sweetheart, the late Charles Herbert Gibbs, and lived briefly in his hometown of Apalachicola, Florida before returning to reside in Arlington. Carol served as assistant to Dr. Fredrick J. Stare, Founder and Dean of the new Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. In 1972 Carol moved from the School of Public Health to serve as CFO at Pathfinder International. Carol served as CFO of Pathfinder until her retirement in 2003. Professionally, she will be remembered for her business acumen, the accuracy of her accounting, her no nonsense manner and her disdain for sophistry. Carol travelled extensively for work and for pleasure. She felt a special affinity for her time spent in Kenya, Indonesia, and Turkey. Her final adventure in the Galapagos Islands was one of her fondest memories. Carol maintained the highest of professional and personal standards. She was a defender and protector of traditional manners and values, and one of the earliest of the modern professional women. Carol is survived by her cousins, Paul Murphy of Sudbury and William Murphy of Harwichport. She is also survived by many second cousins, dear friends, neighbors and colleagues. A memorial service will be held at Duckett J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Rt. 20), SUDBURY, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
