Catherine Duffy Obituary

Duffy, Catherine Mary (Corcoran)
NEW YORK CITY - Catherine Mary (Corcoran) Duffy, 82, passed away January 27, 2024, following a long illness.
Born on February 26, 1941, to James and Catherine Corcoran, in New York City, she lived a long and happy life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
After graduating from the Sacred Heart Academy and the Wood Tobe-Coburn Secretarial
School, she lived and worked in New York City.
On May 20, 1967, she married Dr. William Duffy, the love of her life and her devoted partner of
56 years. During their long and happy marriage, they built their lives and grew their family
in Albany, N.Y. and Lake Placid, N.Y. Together, they had three daughters, Caron Duffy Young, Lisa Duffy Gilley (Craig) and Jennifer Duffy Villarreal (Marcelo). Her greatest joy was the connection she shared with her six grandchildren. She loved nothing more than giving them her chocolate chip cookies and making them giggle over her famously bawdy one liners.
During retirement, her extensive travels took her everywhere from Paris to Morocco, Mexico,
Argentina, Brazil and Australia, but her heart was always in Ireland. A citizen of both the United States and Ireland, she made sure her children were connected with their Irish heritage and her love of that beautiful country.
Her survivors include her husband, her daughters and, her grandchildren, Catherine Connor
Gilley, Cameron Gilley, Hannah Young, Bridget Young, Sophia Villarreal and Liam Villarreal.
Love filled her marriage and laughter is her legacy. The family will share details about a service to celebrate her life and request that in lieu of flowers, consider hugging a loved one, telling a joke, sipping a Bailey's Irish Cream or making a contribution to JSSA hospice or Catholic Charities in her honor.

I am so sorry for your loss of a fabulous wife, mother, & grandmother! To say that I am devastated is an understatement. Kay was a special friend & I am so sorry that we lost contact when she moved to NYC around the same time that David died. So many memories, going back to the 70s when Lisa & Cathy shared a hospital room when they had their wisdom teeth removed - & then the weddings! And my mother-in-law bringing her coat to keep warm when we visited for a cup of tea! And many, many more that covered approx 50 years. I will miss her friendship. Peggy Teuten
