Catherine Long Obituary

Catherine Long

March 28, 1947 - October 7, 2024

Kansas City , Missouri - Catherine (Cathy) Long, 77 of Kansas City MO, passed peacefully on Monday, October 7,2024. She was the last of three children born to John Edward and Odelia VanCompernolle. She was a graduate from Glennon High School and worked as a lunch lady for 15 years in the North Kansas City School District. Cathy met the love of her life, Delbert E. Long and was married on May 7,1966 and they began a family. As a loving wife and mother, Cathy enjoyed weekend camping trips to the lake and spending time with her family playing card games. Cathy made sure to make everyone feel special by having a stack of special occasion cards near the dining room table, ready to send out. She will be remembered as being quick witted, and might catch you off guard with some sassy, one line zingers. Working outside in her yard full of flowers and being with the birds and other nature always brought her so much joy, and you would rarely see her without a hot cup of coffee in her hand. She was proceeded in death by her parents and sister, Anna Louise Klimt. She was survived by her sister, Rose Marie Claus, her loving husband of 58 years, Delbert, and her children, John E. Long (Penny) and Christine M. Long (Scott); her grandsons, Nathaniel D. Long (Merina) and Dakota Foley; bonus grandchildren, Miranda C. Ott and Michael K. Locke; five great grand-children, Amaya, Carson, Izabella, Easton and Layla.

We were born the same year, and played together when our parents were visiting; had fun in the park, made mud pies. Many fond memories of my sweet cousin.
