Charles Cline Obituary

NEWTON - Charles "Charlie" R. Cline, 74, of South College Avenue, Newton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 11, 2006, at his residence. Born Jan. 6, 1932, in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Robert Joezell and Catherine Coon Cline. Mr. Cline retired in 2004 after 12 years as a clerk with the Catawba County ABC stores. He had worked with his parents in their family business, Cline's Floats, for 18 years. He was an active church member of Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Newton, where he sang in the choir and helped out wherever needed. He had just returned from a very spiritual and rewarding mission trip to Louisiana. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Korean Conflict. A member of Riverside Masonic Lodge 606 in Catawba, he was very instrumental in Ham Day. Survivors include his wife, Catherine Yount Cline of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Missy and Rick Connell of Mount Holly, Mary Kathryn and Scott Woods, and Connie and Joey Midgett, all of Newton; a stepson, Steve Samples of Newton; nine grandchildren, Robert Connell, Leigh Anne Connell, Craig Connell, Sara Woods, Michael Woods, Jennifer May, Jonathan Midgett, Madison Midgett and Christian Midgett; a sister and brother-in-law, Martha Jo Drum and husband, Boyd, of Newton; nieces, Cindy Gabriel and Dianne Fulbright; and a nephew, Robert Drum. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Grace Reformed United Church of Christ. The Revs. James R. Luck Jr., Dr. Thomas Hamilton and Larry Bolick will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Riverside Masonic Lodge 606. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., and at other times will be at the home of his daughter, Mary Kathryn Woods, 2125 Stonehenge St., Newton. Memorials may be made to Grace Reformed United Church of Christ, 117 East J St., Newton, N.C. 28658. Charlie was loved by all who knew him and he never met a stranger. He will be greatly missed by all. Condolences may be sent to the Cline family at www.willisreynoldsfuneralhome.com. The Cline family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
