Charles Cornell Obituary

CORNELL, CHARLES E. 68, (Ret. Lieut. PFD) of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of Nancy (Rose) Cornell, and the former husband of the late Carolyn F. (Polubinski) Cornell. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Ethel (McCutcheon) Cornell. He served his country proudly during Vietnam with the United States Army. Charles worked as a fire fighter for the Providence Fire Department for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant of the North Main Street Fire Station. He was a member of the Providence Fire Fighters Union, Local 799, Retired Providence Police and Fire Fighters Association, and the Providence Permanent Fireman's Relief Association. Besides his wife, Nancy, he leaves his three children, Charles E. Cornell, Jr, of Bristol, Christopher V. Cornell, of Cranston, and Stephanie L. Champagne, of Stonington, CT; and his seven grandchildren, Evan, Andrew, and Sydney Champagne, Madison and Emmerson Cornell, and Taylor and Sofia Cornell. He was the brother of the late Claire A. Baldasarre. Charles' funeral will be held on Thursday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Interment with military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Wednesday, 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 would be appreciated. I remember Charlie and his sister Claire from when they lived on Superior Street in Providence. Always happy and having fun, I lost track of them when they moved away. Condolences to the family. RIP Charles.
