Charles Laurence 'Larry' Phillips, 94
SCARBOROUGH -- Charles Laurence 'Larry' Phillips, 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
He was born on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1917, in Dayton, Ohio, the second child of the late George Phillips of Kennebunk and Alice (Froding) Phillips originally from Karlstad, Sweden. He attended South Portland schools and was a 1936 graduate of South Portland High School. He briefly attended college in Portland before joining the Army Air Corps in 1942.
After returning to Maine, he began working for York Electric where he worked for 30 years as a master electrician.

As a young man Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his father in the wilds of Maine. In 1928 his family built a cottage on Panther Pond in Raymond where he spent his summers, boating, fishing, swimming and watching the loons, ducks and other wildlife. In his later years he enjoyed gardening, traveling and long walks and picnics by the ocean with Mildred.
He spent the final years of his life at the Gorham House and his final months at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough where he was lovingly cared for by the nurses and staff.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; and sister, Vivian. He is survived by his daughters, Susan Howard and her husband Michael of Amherst, Mass., Cynthia Doughty and her husband Paul of Cape Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Brian and Jeff Doughty and Kirianna Howard.
He will be lovingly remembered as hardworking and generous by family and friends.

Dear Susan and Cindy,

I really enjoyed knowing your Dad. I remember seeing him and your Mom walk by camp at Panther Pond on their nightly walks. Our histories are long and linked by our Parents thru a place we love and they loved "our lake".

Dear Susan & Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. Your parents were the sweetest people. As a little girl and even later on they would stop and chat with me as I walked home on Richland Street. Your Dad will be missed. He is now with your mother. Sincerely, Jane Seymour Pearson
