Raleigh, North Carolina - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly loved father, Charles Waverly Smith, of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Waverly was predeceased on September 30th, 2022, by Barbara, his cherished wife of nearly 70 years. Their love and admiration for each has inspired family and friends and we know that he and Barbara are together again in Heaven.
Waverly was born in on February 13, 1935, in Rocky Mount, NC, where he grew up and later met Barbara. Waverly served in the Army following high school and then attended North Carolina State University. Following school, Waverly's started his 35+ year career with NCR, where his passion for computers began. After retiring from NCR, Waverly continued learning and pursing information technology and would spend hours at his computer and often helping neighbors and friends with their computer issues. He was an active leader in the Brentwood Community Watch program.
Waverly was a loving husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed camping, boating, traveling and dancing.
Waverly is survived by his son, Scott Smith, daughter, Michele Hazzard (Neil), sister Judy Tilley and other family and friends.
A celebration of Waverly's life will be held at 1:00p.m. November 15th, 2022, in the chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Reverend Dan Baer, Jr. of St James United Methodist Church will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00p.m. prior to the service.
The graveside service will be held following the chapel services at Pine View Cemetery, 761 E Raleigh Blvd, Rocky Mount, NC for those wishing to attend.
