Clarence Haldeman Obituary

Clarence 'Jake' J. Haldeman of Malvern Clarence "Jake" J. Haldeman, 93, of Malvern, formerly of Paoli, passed away on Nov. 25, 2014. Twice widowed, Jake was married to the late MaryAnn (nee MacRonald) and the late Elizabeth J. (nee Donohue). He was the father of Marie Haldeman Tartaglio and Maureen Haldeman (Mark) Livesay; the grandfather of Matthew, Lisa, Daniel and Paul Tartaglio and Elizabeth, Kaitlin and Megan Livesay; the great grandfather of Madison, Ella and Kylie and the brother of Teresa Haldeman Neustadter. Jake was a graduate of Columbia High School and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and the Croix de Guerre. Following his military service he was a Train Conductor for the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) and Conrail for 40 years and was known to many as the "singing conductor." After his retirement he pursued a professional singing career, touring with the "Golden Girl Follies" show. He was active in many local civic organizations, including the VFW Post 5203 and the Knights of Columbus, where he was recently named "Man of the Year 2012." Jake was a member of St. Patrick's Church where he was a lector and singer, and at Christmas he was known as the "Ring the Bells" vocalist. He enjoyed golfing, model railroading and reading but his greatest joy was being a loving father and grandfather. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church on Channing Ave. in Malvern. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in West Chester. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10 to 11:15 a.m. in the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project (wounded warriorproject.org). Arrangements are being handled by the Alleva Funeral Home, Inc., Paoli.

Jake,

Thanks for the memories! You were one of Dad's favorite co-workers and friends....I am sure you are having a Manhattan together in heaven, and singing a few tunes....

To the family and loved ones of Jake ~ please accept my deepest sympathy upon the loss of your precious dad, pop-pop and lifelong friend and parishioner. There will never be another Jake Haldeman, that is for sure and I am blessed to have known him by virtue of his marriage to MaryAnn (my dad's cousin). God bless you all at this tough time. Jake was an American patriot, a good friend to all and a wonderful family man. His volunteer hours to many of the most worthy causes was unparalleled. His loss will be felt by many people, even though he led such a rich and rewarding life. Rest in peace my friend.
