Our family had the fortune to cross paths wtih Butch. It didn't take long to learn what he was made of. His fabric was rough and rigid, yet he was sewn together with honesty, integrity, and love of all things good. It also didn't take long to learn that he loved God, his family, and our country. We crossed paths only for a moment, but he left a mark on us that will last a lifetime. We're gonna miss ya, Butch! With love and prayers to the Thress family, from the Hubbards.

I have known "Butch" for many years, having worked with his father, in the Knoxville Fire Dept. for 30 years. Butch was a fine Christian gentleman, and a wonderful friend to me. He treated my house at one time, with Orkin.

The Thress Family, I again would like to express sympathy to you at this difficult time. It was a priviledge to work for Butch. He was very compassionate about his work and that made the rest of us compassionate as well. I will miss his friendly smile and his "hey buddy". Everytime I eat a chili dog I can promise he will come through my thoughts. He will be missed!!!

Thress Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies.
Butch was a wonderful person and a kind human being.I have known Butch since he was a Branch Manager in Knoxville and I worked in Bristol. Butch was the District Manager when I left Tennessee to come to Virginia, he helped with my relocation. Butch was a dedicated Orkin employee and will be missed my all. Butch is resting in heaven with no more pain and having to fight a terrible disease.

Butch Thress was by far the best "Boss" I have ever had or probably will have . He was truly the kind of person I strive to be. A strong christian with a strong feeling for family. Since knowing Butch for 27 plus years I feel I am a better man for knowing him. We shared many conversations both at work and from a fishing boat. They say the apple doesnt fall far from the tree and if you know Butch's Mom and Dad you would surely know that is true. My deepest sympathy to Tansi and the children. Take comfort in knowing where Butch is and that we will reunite one day. Prayers will be lifted up for you daily. We love you all, Jim & Judy Davis

Dear Thress Family,
I was very lucky to have actually met Butch in July 2006 when he came to Boston, Mass for a meeting. Through my years with Orkin I had heard so many wonderful things about him and the stories, well they go on and on...
I walked with Butch to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox game and he was so excited to go back home and tell his grandchildren all about the stadium. He was a man that caught your attention with his kindness and gentle ways. My deepest sympathy to the family.

I have been very fortunate to have known Butch over the last 5 years. It has been a pleasure to work with with him. He always came into our office with a smile.
Butch is now in the arms of the angels looking over all of us. He is in no more pain or suffering from his cancer. We would rather him be here with us but God needed him more than we did. Butch will always be in our Hearts, forever.
Love,
Cathy

Tansi and Family,
I am so sorry about Butch. Words can't express how much I was rooting for Butch to beat this awful killer. Lung cancer took my brother in 11 days three years ago. When it is time the Lord will take you. You always knew where you stood with Butch and that is what I admired most about him. I will always remember both of you coming to McEwen for the Christmas party. Good times.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
