Daniel Walter "Dan" Kobyluck Sr.

Oakdale - Daniel Walter Kobyluck Sr., 79, beloved husband of Maureen (Cooney) Kobyluck of Oakdale, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, after battling a long illness.

Dan, "Squeeky," "Pop" was born Jan. 16, 1946, in Norwich and was the son of the late Daniel Kobyluck and Mary (Savosh) Kobyluck. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony Kobyluck; sister Susan Kobyluck; son Daniel Walter Kobyluck Jr.; daughter Dana Anne Kobyluck; his father and mother-in-law, John and Roberta (Schultz) Cooney; and brother-in-law Michael Cooney. In addition to his wife of 61 years, he will be sadly missed by his four children, their spouses, his grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren: Dana's (Montville) children, Danielle, Stephanie and Nicholas; Christopher and Sue (Montville), Alexa and Daniel; Matthew and Lori (Waterford), Vanessa, Kyle, and Sabrina; Joshua and Katherine (Montville), Justin and Erin (Maverick and Maci), Jared and Danielle (Charles and Everly), Jace, Angelina, Angelica, Ava, and Kylee; Mark and LeeAnn (Montville), Ryan, Zachary and Isabella. He will also be missed by his sisters, Patricia (Kobyluck) Burke and husband Tom, Candace (Kobyluck) Schumacher and husband Rick; and sister-in-law Kathleen (Cooney) Wojtcuk and husband Barry.

Dan graduated from Montville High School in 1965, and from there served in the National Guard. Dan married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Maureen, a Mohegan Tribal member. They were inseparable for 61 years. During their marriage, they spent countless hours enjoying their lakeside home in Connecticut, traveling across the country in the racecar hauler, and driving annually to their Florida home during the winter months with their puppies, Shooter and Gemma.

Dan's love of the trucking industry culminated in proudly piloting the racecar hauler across the country, with Maureen always as his copilot, for 15 years during his son Matt's racing career. They also attended multiple bike weeks with Maureen holding tight on the back of his custom Wide Glide Harley. Dan started Kobyluck Trucking in 1972. Soon after, the business grew and included Kobyluck Sand and Gravel, Kobyluck Construction, and Kobyluck Ready Mix where with a fleet of trucks, numerous crushers and screeners, heavy equipment, and concrete trucks, he was proud to serve the construction industry in Connecticut. Dan was the "original" truck driver and equipment operator. He was fondly referred to as "CAT Man" while on the road and while on the jobsite, he was known as "Dozer Dan." He started his career in "The Black Cat," a 1972 Brockway tri-axle and retired at the controls of a new CAT 374 excavator.

Dan was a quiet and humble man, but operating that mammoth of a machine was a proud moment for him. Dan built their family home on Oxoboxo Lake, and it was there that many family memories were made. They proudly hosted annual picnics, holiday gatherings, and weekends full of swimming, boating, barbequing, and attending to his incredible firepit making s'mores with all his grandchildren. Nothing pleased him more than sitting on his John Deere gator or tractor, bandana on his head, sometimes with a grandchild on his lap, overseeing their beautiful property. He loved classic cars, especially his 57 Chevys, his Harley and playing golf. He also enjoyed watching golf and NASCAR, rooting for the famous black No. 3, while sitting in his chair with a Budweiser in hand.

Dan enjoyed many things but his proudest accomplishment was his family. Besides his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him greatly.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, with a procession from the Church and Allen Funeral home at 53 Norwich-NL Turnpike in Uncasville to Fort Shantok for those who would like to participate. A burial service inviting all family and friends will take place at 11 a.m. at the Mohegan Burial Grounds at Fort Shantok. A gathering at Camp Oakdale Pavilion in Montville will take place immediately after to greet family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
