The world lost a wonderful person when you left us but heaven gained an angel. I so thank you for always taking that extra step when dealing with my animals, and for working with me financially, so many will not do that these days. I so pray for peace and comfort for your friends and family at this time. I am so sorry that you were taken from us prematurely. I am thankful now you are not hurting and are in no more pain. You will be missed.

Dr. Mellinger
I was very shocked and saddened to know of your passing. I will miss you so very much. It was a honor to know such a wonderful caring person who treated animals with such compassion. I can't thank you enough for all that you have done for my animals. My prayers are for your family and friends. You will be greatly missed but I know the one comfort is that you are no longer suffering and you are in a better place. Thank you so much for all that you have done for the animals you treated in your practice and for the impact on the lives of people you made. My family will always remember you, R.I.P.

Dr. Dan,
I had the privilege of working with you and Dr. McNeill while in school. You were such a wonderful person and had true heart for the animals no matter what!! I still recall the day I refused to assist you with a rat! And when I was sick Dr . McNeill giving me the canine Tylenol and antibiotic!!
I know you are looking down on those days and laughing to yourself!! I just praise God that there is no more hurt and suffering and that one day we will all be reunited! May God bless your family during this difficult time.

Debbie and Family, It was my pleasure to become acquainted with Dan through vet school and to reconnect at various reunions through the years. He was definitely a class act and his positive attitude should inspire all that knew him. Judy and I will have you in our prayers.

A note to send my sympathies and prayers for a member of a family of former students and friends. I know what Dan and his family experienced with ALS. I lost my wife due to ALS in 2012 it is a horrrific disease. Again my prayers are with the entire Mellinger family.

My heart is deeply saddened at the news of Dan's passing. When planning our high school reunion we dubbed it "The Last Chance Reunion" we never thought that it would be Dan's last. Dan was always a class act. His infections smile and whit is what I remember most. I enjoyed his eye of composition with his photography. Rest in peace dear friend.

Hi Debbie,

You and your family are in our prayers. Dan was quite a man and certainly married well! Everyone in the vet class of '79 enjoyed his humor and attitude. Best wishes and a toast to his life.
Sincerely,
Brian Ortman

Dr Mellinger was a terrific veterinarian and person, I miss his smile and energy. My furbabies have been patients at Northwood since the late 1980's but I'm glad to know that he is up there in heaven taking care of my furbabies at the Rainbow Bridge.

My husband and I have known Dan as a doctor and friend to our animal family ever since he started at Northwood with Dr. McNeill. We have missed him at Northwood; but , we know he is in a better place with all of his furry friends and his family members and friends that passed over the River before him. God's blessing to all of you, his loved ones, in your time of sorrow. Remember he is now free of pain and sitting with the Lord.

Can you imagine the mob of friends, family, and animals greeting Dr. Dan at the gates of Heaven. And the joy of his embrace with his savior. At the clinic last Halloween, I reminded him of our family's ceaseless searching for our cat who escaped his carrier in the clinic parking lot in 1984 or so. Puss showed up at the apartments behind the clinic several weeks later. And in 2013, Dr. Dan remembered the event and where mom lived. For the past year, his Facebook page has been a source of strength and hope for me as I coped with a new diagnosis. I know he'll continue to guide me.
