DANIEL REAGAN Obituary

REAGAN, DANIEL (DANNY) MELVIN - 66, born January 31, 1946 and of Knoxville, Tennessee, went to be with his heavenly Father on October 30, 2012 at Parkwest Medical Center following a courageous, 14 year battle against Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He was a descendent of Col. Samuel Wear (Revolutionary War), and Richard and Cecilia Reagan from Rockingham County, Virginia. He graduated from
Bearden High School in 1964. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in Electrical Engineering in 1969. He was a member of TAU BETA PI (National Engineering Honor Society). He worked at Boeing (Seattle, WA), Western Electric (Atlanta, GA), and at Rohm and Haas for the majority of his career as a project engineer, 23 years of service. Preceded in death by his father, Frank Reagan; brother, David Reagan; infant sister, Mary Reagan; paternal grandparents, Wiley and Annie Swaggerty Reagan; and maternal grandparents, Elmer and Augusta Francis. Survived by his devoted and loving wife, Sharon Goolsby Reagan; son, Michael Scott Reagan of Norcross, GA; daughter, Melissa (Missy) Reagan Murphy and son-in-law Jason of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Reagan Grace and Jackson Eli Murphy; mother, Colleen Francis Reagan; brother, Robert and wife Debbie Reagan of Cameron, MO; brother, Randy and wife Pam Reagan of Sweetwater, TN; sister-in-law, Ann Reagan Rogers, Knoxville, TN; many nephews and nieces, great nephews and great nieces, cousins, family and friends. Danny was a loving and kind husband, father, grandpa, son, and brother. Danny and Sharon would have celebrated their 43rd anniversary November 1, 2012. He often reminded us that he had a wonderful life. He enjoyed many things, including genealogy, being a member of the East Tennessee Historical Society, NASCAR racing, reading, traveling (favorites included National Parks in 49 states, as well as many historical sites), working in the yard, as well as working on cars. When his health declined, he was still able to find ultimate happiness in spending time with his grandchildren and watching them grow. They were the light of his life. The family extends many thanks to the nurses, physicians, and staff at Parkwest Hospital for the constant love and support during Danny's multiple hospitalizations. The family will receive friends Friday, November 2, 2012 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A chapel service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Berry Funeral Home with Rev. John Justice officiating and the interment will follow at Meridian Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Sam Josiah, Randall Roland and Raymond Reagan; godson, Chris Seneker. Donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 404 BNA Drive, Suite 102, Nashville, TN 37217. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.

Danny was more than a cousin to me, he was more like the Brother I never had. I didn't get to see him too much, but I miss him terribly. I Love You Danny.

Sharon and family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I worked alongside Dan at Rohm and Haas. He was an expert at what he did, and a tireless worker as well. I always enjoyed working with him.

Sharon, Missy and Jason: I am honored that you would call on me during your time of grief. I have gotten acquainted with Danny through our conversations and am sorry I never met him. My prayers are that you will remain strong through this time and that you will be assured that to be absent from the body is to be present with God. Please call on me any time. I send my Christian love to you my brother and sisters in Christ.

Dan was an excellent researcher in family history. I came to know him through our shared efforts to document the Reagan family. We were cousins, both descendants of Josiah and Mary Cagle Reagan. I will miss having his ideas and help as I continue the search that we have never quite finished. I will make a donation to the Dupont Cemetery Fund in his name, the place where our Reagan ancestors lie buried. Steve Cotham
