Darren Baucom Obituary

Darren Glenn Baucom, or as many knew him, "Dr. Boc," "Doc," or just "D," passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, at home, following a 14-month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He was 54. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, in Compass Christian Church, 2600 Hall-Johnson Road, Colleyville. An open mic will be offered for those that would like to say a few words or share a story. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a brain tumor charity of your choice or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Darren was born to Mack and Hilda Baucom on March 1, 1961, in Albuquerque, N.M. Darren was very active and involved in many sports. He had a huge passion for golf and spent a lot of time on the course. He also loved to hunt. He was most proud of his hunt in Africa and his last hunt in Alaska. Darren regularly played softball and was on the same team, Bronco's, for almost 27 years. Darren was dearly loved and will be dearly missed by many. His sense of humor was like no other! He loved his family and friends so much, especially, "my baby," as he called his first granddaughter. Darren was preceded in death by his father, Albert Mack Baucom; daughter, Lauren Baucom; and son, Ryan Crowe. Survivors: Mother, Hilda Baucom; wife, Susan Baucom; children, Tyler Baucom and wife, Leslie, Brooke Baucom; granddaughter, Campbell Baucom; sisters, Diedre Baucom, Donna Baucom, Debbie Auston; many nieces and nephews; so many friends; and his beloved pets.

My deepest sympathies to all of Darren's family. I was so sad to hear that he lost his battle with Cancer. I didn't see Darren much accept for LD Bell functions, but I've known him since 7th grade. One thing that can always be said about him is what a kind, funny, nonjudgmental person he was. I'm honored to have known him and will miss seeing him.

Susan, Brett and I are so very sorry for your loss. I have known Darren for 37 years and Brett has been friends with Darren for 44 years. He introduced Brett and I 34 years ago and we are still married, you might say he was a great match maker. We loved Darren and he will always be in our hearts.

To the entire Baucom family~ I'm so very sad to hear that Darren lost his battle. He was such a sweet man. A good man. They don't make them like that anymore. I remember growing up around all of you & Darren. Such sweet memories. You never forget the neighborhood kids you grow up with. He was such a sweetheart when my Daddy was battling cancer. Him & Mack would always come by for a visit to cheer Dad up. I remember Daddy saying he would Umpire softball games with the Broncos team. He'd see Darren & call him Bubba, lol. That's an old, old nickname. He'd get tickled because Darren would always tell him to stop calling him that. But Daddy always did anyway just to give him a hard time. I hate that we have to lose the ones we love to illness. It's not fair to take such beautiful people out of the world. My prayers are with each & everyone of you. He's with Daddy & Mack now & that makes me smile. Love to you all, Lisa Maynard VanMeter

I have many memories of Darren that I wont ever forget. He was much more than my cousin. He was like a brother and my best childhood friend by far. There was nothing I looked forward to more than spending time with him.It didnt matter where we were or what we were doing,if I was with him I was happy. We had lots of fun together at Six Flags, playing football, baseball, bike riding, ect. Darren was a very successful person and had many friends and a loving family that cared for him very much. Rest in peace Darren, you will never be forgotten.
