David Nix Obituary

David Aaron (ANDY) NIX died June 20, 2014 in Houston where he had lived since 1970. Andy was born to David Carl Nix and Gwenda Mae Bunger Nix on October 28, 1930 in Seminole, Oklahoma. He grew up in DeKalb, (Bowie County) Texas. Andy was preceded in death by first wife Beverly Gail Howard Nix and father (both in 1981), mother (1990), and brother Donald Eugene Nix (2006). Andy is survived by his wife of 28 years, Louise Jennings Deer Nix, his only child, Kevin Michael Nix and wife Deborah McDougall Nix all of Houston. Andy is also survived by sisters Fran Nix Gibbs of Arlington, Shirley Nix of Bellaire, niece Karen Kay Nix Hagar of Big Spring, nephews Ronald James Nix of Odessa and David Arthur Gibbs of Mansfield and grandchildren Blake and Carson Deer, Jason, Sean, and Katy. At the age of six, Andy was stricken with polio and was a patient for many years at Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport. He walked on crutches most of his life. Andy worked several years at Kellogg Engineering and retired from Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County in 1995. Andy was a committed Christian, an ordained Baptist deacon, and a Master Mason. His profound faith in a loving God helped him to be cheerful and inspirational to all who knew him. A Family Memorial service was held Tuesday July 8, 2014, at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston. Gifts honoring Andy's life may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607.
