Donald Carl Strueh, 90

Donald Carl Strueh, 90, of Evansville, passed away on May 31, 2015, at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN. He was born June 12, 1924, in Evansville, to the late Karl and Luella (Lengelsen) Strueh.

He resided in Lafayette the past four years to be near his children but had previously lived his entire life on the Strueh family farm, which has been in the family since 1860.

On January 1, 1946, Don married Betty Rabe. New Year's Day of this year would have marked 70 years of their marriage. Don actively farmed until he was 86, and retired from Arkla Industries where he headed the engineering model shop. He was a lifelong member of Salem UCC church where he held numerous leadership positions.

He took great pride in his family, his farm, and his woodworking. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Purdue fan. Don took great pride that his immediate family collectively received 17 Purdue degrees.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur; and sisters, Luella Crawford and Loretta Bender.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Terry (Karen) and Tim (Barbara); daughter, Sylvia (Scott) Bechtel of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Kurt (Lynn) Strueh, Sarah (Scott) Aikin, Brandon (Fernanda) Bechtel, Kristen (Keith) Mears, Adam Bechtel, Lisa Strueh, and Denise Strueh; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Viola Lutz of Evansville; brother, Gilbert (Wilma) of Baton Rouge, LA; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at Salem United Church of Christ Heusler, officiated by Pastor Al Schmitz, with burial in Salem Heusler Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander West Chapel and Tuesday from 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
