Doris Humphrey Obituary

Doris E. Humphrey
age 86, of Canton, passed away in her home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, following a 6 1/2 year battle with cancer. She was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio on Nov. 13, 1925 to the late, Floyd and Hazel Bailey and was a 1943 graduate of Lincoln High School. She was a member of First Christian Church, the Sister's of the Swish, Bally's Scandanavian Spa and the Al Michael Bowling Team. She was a volunteer for many years at Aultman Hospital, the Aultman Bloodmobile, where she donated gallons of blood, the American Heart Association, the United Way and worked at voting polls for many years. Doris was the founder of the Mother's Safety Club at McGregor School and proudly served on the U.S. Army Cadet Nurse Corps from 1944-1946. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by infant twin sisters and an infant brother. Survivors include her husband, Roger W. Humphrey, whom she married on May 12, 1946; three sons, Terry (Shirley) Humphrey of Canton, Ted (Sheryl) Humphrey of East Canton, and Tom (Jo-Ann) Humphrey of East Sparta; two daughters, Patricia Powell and Pamela Gray both of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lauretta Lintner and Dorothy (Harold) Griffith both of Canton.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel, with Minister Jeff Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. The family would like to thank the Aultman Hospice Program and the nurses at the North Canton Medical Foundation Cancer Center. A special thank you to Dee with Aultman Hospice and granddaughter Rachel for the special care shown to Mom.
