Earl Robertson Obituary

Korean War Veteran Earl DeWayne "Rusty" Robertson 84, peacefully passed away on May 11, 2018. Rusty was born July 10, 1933 in Marmaduke, AR to Elbert Robertson and Nancy Reynolds. His family moved to San Pedro, CA when he was a child where he started his entrepreneurship at age 6 selling newspaper and shining shoes to help support the family. His youthful curiosity led to many excursions in and around Long Beach, CA such that his restlessness landed him at the Thompson Boys Ranch in Lancaster, CA, where he was raised along with other spirited youths. Rusty also worked on the Owens Tunnel Hydraulic project in Bishop CA. At age 17 when he returned home he asked his mother for permission to join the Army to fight in the Korean War. His mother refused so he sought out his estranged father and insisted he sign the papers, which he did. He was assigned to the 1st Calvary and sent to the front lines in South Korea. Post Korean War, Rusty lived in Salt Lake City, UT, then to Bakersfield, CA he found work with the Railroad until the 1952 earthquake. This led to Rusty's career at owning and operating service stations in Monticello, Wells, Ely, Las Vegas and Sacramento. Rusty eventually owned a carpet cleaning business up to his retirement. Rusty was involved in his local AA organization where he mentored many. Rusty had an unmatched passion for the outdoors which led to his relentless desire to hunt and fish. What will be mostly missed about him was his ability to capture your attention with true-life tales of his many adventures. He was also known for his continued community service in the Sacramento area and touched the lives and the hearts of many. Rusty is survived by his sister, Anna Morland, his 17-yr. canine companion Nancy, his 7 children, Roxanne Robertson, Allese Robertson-Johnson (Kenneth), Michael Robertson (Barbie), Rodney Gomoll, Kathleen Robertson, Annelise McKenzie (Carmen). Carey Robertson pre-deceased Rusty in 1955. Rusty has 20 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchild. A memorial service will be at Mt. Vernon Memorial Park and Cemetery at 10:00 am, Sunday, May 20, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donation to a Veterans organization of your choice is appreciated.
