EDWARD BOTTONE

I met Dr. Bottone during my time working in the bacteriology department back in 2001. He would come around the department with medical students, during my training in the department. Fast forward to 25 years later, I thought about Dr. Bottone just now, while I'm gram staining slides, I figured I'd google him and found this obituary. I am sorry that my colleague from Mount Sinai died. He was a dedicated microbiologist who helped me out with articles for my (defunct) journal., We had lots of discussion together! - Alex von Graevenitz, Microbiologist, U. of Zurich,Switzerland.

I met Dr. Bottone because he spoke to Irvington High School students each year about microbiology. His love of science was infectious (pun intentional) and influenced my career. We lost a great and generous man. My deepest condolences to the Bottone family.

In 1974 I met Ed for the first time, and along with the direction of Marcel Sierra determined my life´s pursuit. Thanks Ed for caring enough to smack me in the back of the head, while drawing me into the wonderful world of microbiology.

It was a real pleasure to have known Eddie. He had an amazing (and inspiring) career as a microbiologist and was a highly valued mentor to me during my college years. I am very sorry to learn of his passing. Jim Allen (son of Lillian and James)
