Edward Chan Obituary

Edward Paul Chan

Okemos

On April 4, 2014, Edward passed away peacefully at his Okemos, Michigan home after a year long struggle with cancer; he was surrounded by family and friends.  Edward was 40-years old.  Edward grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and he was the third child of Dr. Paul (deceased) and Lynne Chan.  Edward was a loving husband to Molly Chan, and devoted father to Piper (10), Arabella (8), and Tyler (5).

Edward graduated from Michigan State University and began a successful professional career, establishing his own business, Alliance Payment Solutions, Inc., in 2003.  Edward was an avid tennis player, pilot, Big Brother Big Sister volunteer, and a dependable and handy friend who could fix anything.  Edward lived life to the fullest, and he touched the lives of those fortunate to know him.

Edward was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Paul Chan.  He is survived by his mother, Lynne Chan; wife, Molly Chan; children, Piper, Arabella, and Tyler; brother, Chris (Sandy) Chan;  sister, Paula (Scott) Edelstein; fourteen nieces and nephews; and numerous friends and family who will deeply miss him.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 6, 2014 4:00 pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-4 pm prior to the service. Contributions may be made to Ele's Place, 1145 W. Oakland Avenue, Lansing, MI 48915 in memory of Edward.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences may be made at: www.greastlansing.com

Memories and Condolences
for Edward Chan

Not sure what to say?

April 21, 2014

I first met Edward when he was 13, had a thin, cheesy "mustache" that he refused to shave (mostly because he was proud he could grow it at 13) and long hair. Even then, you could see what kind of man he would grow into. At, 13, he was incredibly hard working, willing to help, and goal driven whether the project was installing a car stereo in the Oldsmobile or making an ice rink in the yard. It was no surprise to hear of his success, entrepreneurial spirit.
My heart sank, eyes misted and a lump developed in my throat that I couldn't get rid of when I heard of this. Even the most beautiful words I could express would be humbled by the sorrow and sadness his family must feel. Therefore, I will let someone else express them. This, from a book that I received from Edward as a gift (one of his favorite books at the time).

“Death ends a life, not a relationship.”

Every place I went this weekend, in our little eastside, Bay City neighborhood, people were heartsick to hear of Ed's recent passing. As a teenager, Ed spent many happy hours in our backyard, playing ball or just hanging out. He was always one of my favorites. Always polite and cheerful, with an easy smile. Although Ed was not blessed with years, his life was filled with the love of the people that knew him. God bless his family with peace and comfort during this difficult time.

So many great memories growing up with Edward. From walking home after school and daring each other to do stupid things, to countless games of wiffle ball and basketball, to the "skater" phase trying to dye our hair blond in the basement with Ed Z and the boys. He was truly one of the good guys. Your family will be in my thoughts, Chan. You'll be missed my friend.

As a tech on the 4C nursing unit, it was such a pleasure taking care of him during the time he was with us. He was such a sweet and easy going man who reminded me of why I love taking care of my patients. I wish you all peace during this time and I earnestly pray that God sends comfort to all of you.

Sincerely,

Unfortunately we just heard this today. Not being aware that he was even sick, it came as a tremendoue shock.
There just aren't any words that can express our sadness for not only your loss, but for everyone's loss who had the true blessing of knowing Edward.
To us he was and always will be "Ubberd" because Sarah just couldn't pronounce his name right as a little girl. I can still see him with a nail apron on helping dad with the garage roof.
He was family to us, so truly special, and will remain so in our hearts forever.

With greatest love and sympathy.
Greg Armstrong and family.

Mr. Chan was one of the nicest, most sincere men I have ever had the privileged or taking care of. The love that he had for his family and friends was very apparent. Through all the tough times he remained positive and focused on what was important in life. For that, I will never forget him. I cannot begin to express my sadness for your loss but I know that you will live on with the same qualities that he expressed each and every day. God bless.

Edward loved people and the moment you met him, you instinctively felt like a friend. He had a way of making everyone feel comfortable, in an easy natural way. His positive outlook on life was exhilarating and I always looked forward to our conversations, conversations that always ended with talk of our families and how very proud he was of Molly and their beautiful children. Edward possessed all of the qualities a man should have; honesty, humility, integrity, wisdom and love. He will be missed. May God bless you with strength, courage and wisdom. You and your loved ones are in our prayers.
