I just today learned of the loss of Colonel EC Hoagland. I met Colonel Hoagland just a year ago while working at the Littleton Police Department. In the near 30 years I worked there, I remember that Col. Hoagland would always bring a large crate of the most delicious apples to the police department around Christmas time. An apparent thank you for a Littleton officer showing him some kindness many years before. And it took nearly 30 years for me to finally meet this generous man who always thought of us during the holidays. Well, we spent nearly an hour talking about his life and I only wish it had been 3 or 4! He told me how he was Clark Gable's superior officer when Gable reported for flight training in WWII. He told me that when Gable announced, "Lt. Gable reporting for duty sir." It was all he could do to not say, "Frankly Gable, I don't give a damn." He got a kick telling me that and I got a kick hearing it! He also shared a story of going through flight training and nearly falling out of the cockpit while with his trainer but being too afraid to share the story with him upon safe landing for fear they would kick him out of the service. Now that would have been a loss for our country! He told me of his miles long treks for his birthdays and of his rescue after being shot down in enemy territory in Korea and how riding in the rescue chopper was scarier than anything he had ever done in a plane. Somehow...I doubted that. This man was a national treasure, awarrior, a respected hero, a leader and a devoted family man and I am deeply saddened he has left us. My deepest condolences go out to his family. Thank you for your service Colonel EC Hoagland to this great country of ours! And thank you for thinking of the men and women of the Littleton Police Department over the years. We are eternally grateful. Sean Dugan, Chief of Police, Red Rocks Community College.

" I had such wonderful times with EC and Julia when they and I were living in Belgium, and I have long enjoyed our e-mail communications about our families. EC was quite a human being, one who was loved, honored and respected by all of us lucky enough to have known him as family and friend." Edward Ellis Maxcy (1st cousin by marriage)

God puts wonderful people in the path of our lives. EC was one of them. A dear friend from the Air Force Academy Quarterback Club of Denver. Always enjoyed listening to EC's wonderful stories. We will all miss him.

My heart breaks with the news of Uncle EC's passing and Olga and I send our sincerest condolences to ReJean, my cousins Ed and Alice and the rest of the family. EC was my favorite uncle and always a blessing to me. My fond memories of him extend from childhood when he gave me my first cowboy hat and boots at age 6 to later in life when he was a model to me of how to grow old with grace and vigor. I loved him very much and my memories of how he blessed me with be in my heart always.
Love, George

I knew EC from the Quarterback Club of Denver. His smile, his wit, and his amazing stories are my fond memories of this amazing man, a true American Patriot.
My condolences and prayers to ReJean, family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
