Edward Naccash Obituary

COLUMBIA — Edward Stephen Naccash, 57, died peacefully in his sleep Tuesday morning, November 17, 2009.

Born December 30, 1951, in Columbia, Ed was the first born to Frances Knuckley and Emil George Naccash.

Ed was well-known for his quick wit and laughter, his love of great food, his knowledge of sports, his love for the Gamecocks and, as he put it, “his New York Yankees.”

Ed attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and Cardinal Newman Catholic High School where he was taught discipline, respect and obedience - all of which he ignored. While at Cardinal Newman Ed played and lettered in three sports (football, basketball and baseball).

Ed graduated on the Dean’s list from the University of South Carolina with a BS in Physical Education. He went on to teach and coach at Socastee High School where he led the soccer team to a state championship. He later taught and was head basketball coach at Mid Carolina High School for several years.

Ed served in the National Guard from 1970 to 1978 and was a broker and realtor for Bob Capes in the 1980s.

Ed was a devout Catholic who loved and defended his faith.

Surviving Ed is his sister, Rose Mary Naccash, who loved him dearly even though as children he tormented her by locking her out of the house, chasing her around the house and, then, sitting on her. Also surviving Ed is the family’s beloved dog, Queenie.

A rosary will be recited 6 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Rose Mary asks donations be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 7791, Columbia, SC 29202.

“Your sister loves you, Edward!”

Rosie,
I am truly sorry to hear about Ed-bird,
and am not able to get back to town,

WE did have some good times together,

Like watching waves break over his car on the beach
at Daytona, Fla. in the 70's..Etc..

Please, carry on in your life as the successful person,
that I and your friends know and love.....

Rose Mary..It has been several years since I have seen you or Edward but the one memory I do have is that you havea wonderful family and that Edward was a wonderful guy. I know he loved you as his Sister. I lost my Sister in 2001 and I miss her everyday but I know I will see her again, just like you will see Edward again. He walks with God now.
