Edward Silber Obituary

Edward Joseph Silber

Raleigh

On January 9, 2018, Edward Joseph Silber (Ed), a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather passed away unexpectedly at his home in North Raleigh. He was born on June 17, 1940, in Charlotte, NC, as the only child to Frank and Reba Silber who preceded him in death. During his youth, Ed was a ranked tennis player in the Charlotte area and loved weightlifting. He was a Morehead Scholar and graduated from UNC, Chapel Hill.

He married Doreen Rothman on April 11, 1965 who survives. In addition to Doreen, he is survived by son Chaz, wife Joy; son Frank, wife Johanna; daughter Renee, husband Alex Moïse; and Ben, his four legged canine companion. Known as "Poppy" he is also survived by six grandchildren that adored him and will miss him greatly: Owen and Rileigh; Hannah and Joseph; Sadie and Lila.

Ed retired after a 30 year career with IBM. Besides his professional career, he was trusted and highly regarded as a teacher and spiritual leader. He had a true passion for helping people and would look to find the good in them. He was always open to sharing his extensive knowledge of herbs and supplements to improve the health of anyone in need. He was always willing to lend a listening ear and send healing prayers on behalf of others. Ed never met a stranger, striking up conversations with any and everyone he met.

Ed's spirituality was a major aspect in his life and he meditated daily. He was a member of Temple Beth Or and cherished friend of the Yavneh community. His spiritual search started in his teens and he has been a member of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC for 60 years. In 1970, he was a founding member of The Triangle Rose Pronaos of the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC.

He was a Reiki Master and taught Reiki for many years. A 32nd degree Master Mason, he was a 50 year member of the James B Green Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and active supporter of the Masonic youth organizations, DeMolay and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

One of Ed's greatest attributes was his witty sense of humour. He often referred to himself as "Phantom" or answered the phone as "Sherwood Forest, this is Robin Hood". He was great at making puns and telling jokes. Additionally, Ed had a love for animals and always carried treats for his 5 grand fur babies and pets he met on the greenway.

Ed was loved by all and will be truly missed by his family, friends and the community. May the memory of Ed Silber always be for a blessing.

A funeral service will be held 11am Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Temple Beth Or, 5313 Creedmoor Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612. Burial will follow at Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery, 450 N. State Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.

Ed and I were friends at Central High in Charlotte. I remember him as very intelligent with a great sense of humor.

I am so sorry to learn of Eds passing. He was a great neighbor with a quick wit and he was always willing to share a seemingly endless library of jokes. His smiling face, warm personality and caring spirit had an influence on both myself and my children. I will miss him and my prayers are with Eds entire family and especially Doreen. May his soul find peace in his eternal rest.

Ed and I lived less than a block apart in Charlotte during our teen years. He was a big influence on my life, an influence I have mentioned to all my subsequent friends.

He was a man ahead of his time with his interests in weightlifting, tennis, power walking, nutrition. He brought me into the Order of DeMolay. I was there when he developed his early interest in Rosicrucianism.

We reconnected many years later in Raleigh but as these things happen, fell out of touch thru job and residence changes.

Eddie Silber was one of the most unforgettable persons I ever met, perhaps The Most. I will miss him and I pray that Doreen will take comfort knowing that he had many, many friends.

We will certainly miss Ed's smiling face in the neighborhood. Not a day went by when we didn't see him happily strolling down the street with his sweet dog. His memory will certainly live on in the many lives that he touched with his friendly spirit. We pray that each of you feels God's loving embrace as He carries you down this difficult path in your journeys.
With peace and blessings, Sue and Steve Burdett

Doreen-Jim and I are deeply saddened by this news. Seeing the tag team of Ed and Beagle Ben walking the neighborhood, and Ed's jubilant nature, was truly the top highlight of living in Durant Trails. May the wonderful memories you have with him flood you and your family with comfort. God Bless!

Jim and I are so saddened to learn of Ed's passing. We so enjoyed his daily visits down the street with Poppy. He and I always had great stories of past episodes involving my late father. Thank you, Doreen and family, for sharing Ed with all of your neighbors. He will be sorely missed...

I am so sorry to hear about Ed passing. I got to know Ed many years ago when working out of their home.
Ed always had a smile on his face and was always very easy going. I enjoyed many conversations with him. Especially, those about Holistic healing methods. Even in more recent years upon running into him out. He was always pleasant.
I know he will be missed. My prayers go out to the family.
