Ervie MORSE Obituary

ERVIE MUELLER MORSE passed away peacefully on Sunday, the 5th of February 2012, surrounded by her family. She was 88.
Born in Garfield, Texas, on the 18th of January 1924 to Paul Robert and Johanna Rosenbaum "Gockie" Mueller, she received her high school diploma from Austin High School in Austin, Texas. She went on to the University of Texas where she graduated at age 18. After World War II, she worked as the head administrative secretary of the University of Texas Law School where she met the love of her life, Robert E. "Bob" Morse, Jr. Bob and Ervie moved to Houston where Bob became a partner at the Vinson & Elkins law firm, and Ervie successfully raised four children.
Ervie knew many who loved her dearly. She was an avid bridge player and a true Orangeblood in every sense of the word. Always with a smile and a quick wit, Ervie never lost a friend but only added more and more to life's list of people who were truly glad to see her.
Ervie and Bob were longtime members of Lakeside Country Club, and she faithfully served as a loyal volunteer for many years at The Blue Bird Circle. Ervie was a 50 year member of Chapelwood Methodist Church.
Ervie is survived by her son Robert E. "Robin" Morse, III of Houston, Texas, her son Randall Weaver Morse and his wife Cheryl of Richmond, Texas, her daughter Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Harrell and her husband Ken of Metairie, Louisiana, and her daughter Laurie Mueller Morse of Austin, Texas. She was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren, James Freeman Morse and his wife Leslie, Katherine Wolf Hoag and her husband Ryan, Robert Emmett Morse, IV, William Emmett Wolf, Casey Connor Morse, Edward Benjamin Morse and his wife Suzie, Samuel David Harrell and Adam Andrew Morse, as well as four great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those at the Hallmark senior living community where Ervie spent her last four years and kept making more friends. Special affection is felt for Judy Roman who lovingly cared for Ervie and made her last year a happy one.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o'clock this evening, Wednesday, the 8th of February, in the Drawing Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 9th of February, in the chapel of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where Dr. Wick Stuckey, Pastor of Men's Ministries and Pastoral Care, is to officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, and for those who so desire, contributions in Ervie's honor may be directed to the University of Texas Law School Foundation, c/o University of Texas School of Law, Office of Development and Alumni Relations, 727 E. Dean Keeton Street, Austin, TX, 78705; or The Blue Bird Circle, 615 W. Alabama, Houston, TX, 77006.

Robin,

Although I never met "Ervie", the obituary was revealing. I am sure you are proud of the fabulous life she lived. I have heard similar compliments about your father.
I am sure they were quite the pair.
Warm regards, Lee Hancock

One of my earliest childhood memories is of my parents playing bridge at Ervie & Bob's home. The adults in one room, the kids in another facinated by this new thing called "Television"!! I also remember Ervie's smile and kindness.

Ervie was such a grand lady and she lived a grand life. She accepted me into the Morse/Aldred/Whitworth gang 38 years ago and into her heart. I remember the laughter and sometimes tears that came from our shared secrets, and of her caring and inspiring everyone she met. This Matriarch taught me her recipes for life: keep it simple, share with everyone, enjoy what you have, make the best of a situation, expect things to be good, love what you do, take the time to do it well and always set an extra place at the table. Bob, Jack and Martha Jane are ecstatic because now the quartet in heaven is complete. Whether I got the sweet smile or the scrunched up nose, she always told me exactly what she thought. And I appreciated that. Her heart was as big as Texas and I am a better person for having known her. We are all so fortunate to have lots of wonderful memories. So, TWAS, Ervie………….

Ervie was indeed a beloved woman and more fun than a barrel of monkeys! She had a wonderfully, long and fulfilling life with Bob and all her kids, grand-kids, and great-grand-kids! She always had the most lovely and welcoming smile and her home was always the most welcoming of places and all her offspring have inherited that generosity! I will miss her but am glad she is reunited with her cherished husband Judge Bob! Love to Molly, Robin, Randy and Laurie and all the "grands"! Soon the grief will turn into fondest of memories! Love, Robin and Kyle Britt
