Mr. Eugene A. (Woody) Woodward of Collierville, TN (previously of Olive Branch, MS) was received by the Angels of the Lord on Saturday, March 24, 2018, just days before his 92nd birthday.
Woody was born April 13, 1926 in West Middletown, Ohio. Woody was a veteran of both the US Army and Air Force during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. During his years of service to our country, Technical Sergeant Woodward specialized in the repair of X-ray medical and dental equipment for which he received many commendations from Commanding Officers across the world and was the recipient of many coveted Medals. After leaving the armed service, Woody continued to utilize his talent and knowledge in his work for General Electric Medical Systems, from where he retired.
Woody was also a carpenter and wood-worker of great skill. He was famous for his handmade baskets, and a favorite by neighbors who displayed snowmen and Christmas trees made for them by Woody. An active member of Compassion Church of Germantown, TN, Woody graciously served by offering his time and talents for 20 years plus. You could find Woody most early mornings having coffee with his many friends in Collierville and Olive Branch.
Mr. Woodward was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Myra Woodward, and wife, Billie Woodward. Woody is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Betty Woodward, son Donald (Lois) Woodward of Monroe, LA, daughter Debbi (Michael) Wood of Collierville, TN, grandchildren Wayne Arguin, New Orleans, LA, Sherry Vogt, Henry (Christine) Arguin, Olive Branch, MS; Stephanie Blake, Monroe, LA, Brandon Holt, Olivia, and Bella Robbins, Collierville, TN and ten great-grandchildren. The family appreciates the care shown by Woody's loyal friends Kenneth Eidson and Pastor Derrick Gardner.
A Memorial service for our beloved Woody will be held at Compassion Church, 3505 Houston Levee Collierville, TN on April 7 at 11 a.m. with visitation prior starting at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MS (Tishomingo County). The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in Woody's honor to Compassion Church or any Veteran's organization.
