Everett Gerard Collins, Jr., 79, of Metairie, LA, took the next step of his journey on 07/16/23, in Jefferson, LA in the presence of loving family. He was born on 03/29/44 in New Orleans, LA to Everett Collins Sr. and Bernadine Brady Collins Sykes. Everett grew up in the Irish Channel neighborhood of New Orleans with two sisters, Janice Gaudin and Margy Mount, who each preceded him in his journey. His sisters affectionately called him 'baby Jesus' as a child. He was the stepson of John Sykes, and also preceded in his journey by stepsisters Eileen Parr and Jeanne Broadway and brothers-in-law, Pete Gaudin and Birdie Mount, who also preceded him in his journey, and Richard Fortune. He was previously married to Janis Fortune Collins, who remained a dear friend. He was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area. Everett graduated from Jesuit High School in 1961. He completed a Bachelor of Business Administration - Management degree from Loyola University, New Orleans, in 1965. He worked for many years in the banking industry, including for Colonial Bank, Gulf South Bank and Merchants Bank. He worked his way up to Executive Vice President during the course of his career. Everett had a passion for music. He played in various bands over the years, including The Classics, Red Schroeder's Band, Rubber Band and Spice of Life. Of note, he worked as Musical Director at Chris Owens bar in the French Quarter. He played guitar, bass, drums, performed vocals and was lead musician at various times. He had a particular interest in musical arrangement. In his later years, Everett operated his own computer programming business. Everett was in the United States Army from 1965 - 1967. He served honorably in the Vietnam War. His military occupation was as a Personnel Specialist. Proud of his Irish heritage, Everett and his family loved to sing along to traditional Irish tunes at family gatherings. Additionally, he had a fondness for frogs and a love of Star Trek. He is survived by his four sons, Rory Collins, Mark Collins, CJ Collins and Erik Collins; numerous grandchildren, including Amanda Collins, Chase Collins, Corey Collins, Devin Collins, Megan Jackson, Sylvie Collins, Nate Collins, Owen Collins and Aaron Collins; and nieces and nephews, including Erin Hadden, Matt Mount, Sean Mount, Pierre Gaudin Jr, Hilary Gaudin and Andre Gaudin.
