Felix Angelo Pastor, Sr.
June 10, 1934 - July 5, 2021
Resident of Brentwood, CA
Felix Angelo Pastor Sr., aka 'Uncle Ang' to his nieces and nephews, and 'Papa Fe' to his grandchildren, died peacefully with family by his side on July 5, 2021, in Brentwood, CA., while hospitalized at the age of 87.
Felix, the 3rd of four children, was born on June 10, 1934, in the family home on Payne Avenue, in Brentwood, to parents Angelo Pastor and Ernestina Fernandez. He attended Brentwood Elementary School and graduated from Liberty High School in 1952. It was during his time at Liberty High School that he was introduced to Julia Chacon, the sister of his best friend Earl Chacon. On July 5, 1952 he and Julia were married and would enjoy the next 62 years together, raising four children, until her passing in 2013.
In 1959 he was hired at the East Contra Costa Irrigation District as a laborer. He would go on to work there until his retirement in 1997. Felix and his older brother John learned and became proficient at concrete work while working at the ECCID, and would do side work around town. He retired as supervisor, and was honored by the ECCID Board of Directors, and the Byron-Bethany Irrigation District Board of Directors. He returned as a consultant to the ECCID as a result of his knowledge about the early construction of, and the undocumented locations of, various irrigation pipelines. He held that position until 2004.
If raising a family and working full time were not enough, in 1964 Felix became a member of the East Diablo Fire Protection District. He started as a volunteer fireman, and worked his way up to Captain, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief then retired as Chief after nearly 30 years of service to his community.
Besides spending time with family and friends, Felix enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. The walls of his family room are covered in the mounts from his hunting and fishing trips. Even later in life he still would take trips to Utah to hunt Elk, and to visit his longtime family friends. He liked watching football and was an Oakland Raiders fan, often betting against his son Felix Jr. on game nights.
Felix is survived by his son Felix Pastor Jr. (Kelly) of San Lorenzo, Ca., (Daughter in law) Mary Pastor of Oakley, Ca., daughter Lori Benedetti (Tony) of Sparks, Nv. and son Steven Pastor (Tami) of Brentwood, Ca.
He is also survived by grandchildren Stacey Phillips (Shane) of Sparks, Nv., Joseph Pastor Jr. (Ashley) of Bethel Island, Ca., Ricky Pastor of Oakley, Ca., Monica Simmonds (Robert) of Oakley, Ca., Aaron Benedetti (Mike) of Davis, Ca., Alex Pastor of San Lorenzo, Ca., Samantha Pastor and Kaley Pastor, both of Brentwood, Ca., and Jocelyn Gonzales (Eric) of Antioch, Ca.
