HARTMAN, Fred

Fred Hartman, age 79, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 9, 2014, passing away peacefully after a seven year battle with Alzheimer's. Fred, the youngest of four children, was born to Rudolph and Annie Hartman in DeWitt County, Texas.

Fred received his Bachelors and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 1956 and 1958. After completing his degrees he operated a large animal practice in Edna for about eight years. In 1960, he married Cora Kornfuehrer, and they had two daughters.



In 1968, Fred received a Master of Public Health Administration from Tulane University. After completing his degree the family moved to Austin where Fred began a 30 year career with the Texas Department of State Health Services Cooperative Meat Program.



A dedicated Christ-follower at Faith Lutheran Church in Austin since 1968, Fred was heavily involved in the life of the church. The Hartman's were loyal members of the Austin Saengerrunde Society where they enjoyed singing German music, dancing and fellowship. The Hartman's also loved to travel, taking trips from India to Alaska. Fred never missed any of his daughters' events. He was an always present, loving, and sturdy rock the family leaned on. He was fiercely loyal to family and friends.



Fred is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Cora Hartman. He is survived by his children Linda Hartman of Arlington, Virginia; Heather Hartman Vacek and husband Steven of Kyle, Texas, and granddaughters Mary, Grace and Carolyn Vacek.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 13 at Faith Lutheran Church, 6600 Woodrow Avenue, Austin, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association, Central Texas Chapter.
