ALLING--Rev. Dr. Frederic

Augustus, 88, of Marblehead MA and formerly Tenafly NJ, passed away on October 22, 2018. Frederic was born in Newark, NJ on May 8, 1930. Fred graduated with honors from Princeton University with majors in Philosophy and Religion in 1952. He completed studies at The General Theological Seminary and was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1955. He then entered Columbia University receiving his Physicians and Surgeons, MD and MS degree in Social Psychiatry (1961-69). He was an Attending Psychiatrist at Harlem Hospital (1969-72), Medical Director of the Institutes of Religion and Health (1972-77) and a Senior Attending Psychiatrist at St. Luke's Hospital, NYC and became Director of Substance Abuse in-patient services from (1977-95), as well as maintaining a private practice of psychiatry for many years. He published many journal articles and wrote the book "Brief Flights: Transcendent Experiences". His ministry in life was to treat patients with substance abuse, volunteer with the homeless and provide service to patients in his private practice. He always enjoyed sailing from his youth into his eighties. He preceded in death by his sister Susan and brother Wilson. He is survived by his wife, Martha, sister, Stearly, three daughters, eight grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will always be remembered and profoundly missed.
