GARY BEBOUT Obituary

GARY BEBOUT 1955-2023 Gary Bebout died peacefully on March 4, 2023 after bravely battling a long illness. The fifth of eight children, he was born on September 17, 1955 to Eloise (Titus) Bebout and Richard Bebout. After graduating from West Boylston High School (class of 1973), he moved to Boston/Brookline Massachusetts, where he lived for several years with his partner before they relocated to Coconut Grove, Florida then Pacific Palisades, California. Gary worked for many years and finally retired from UCLA Extension Entertainment Studies. Gary had a creative spirit and was an artist at heart. His love of interior design and gardening benefited countless friends and family members, as he helped create a vision and enhance the beauty of their homes. A child of the disco era, he loved to dance and would light up the clubs with his unique style and flare. He was a quick thinker with a natural wit, leaving people laughing and smiling in his wake. The keeper of memories, Gary had a knack for recalling incredible details of the past during conversations with his siblings and cousins. He had a generous, kind heart with a habit of sending thoughtful gifts to those he loved for no reason other than he was thinking of them. For his mother's birthday each year, he would hand design and letterpress the Audubon Society Birdsongs calendar with every family birthday and special celebration, which was no small task, given the size of his family. Gary had an immensely compelling life force and would fill a room with his presence. Gary is survived by those who love him deeply and will forever miss him; his sister Deborah Hackmeister and husband, Peter, of Damariscotta, ME, his brothers William Bebout and wife, Clare Vann, of Amesbury, MA, Mark Bebout, of Parrottsville, TN, Brian Bebout and wife, Lisa Trudeau, of Amesbury, MA, his sister, Joanne Maino and husband, Mike, of Ipswich, MA, as well as seven nieces and nephews, Sean Dolan, Michael Dolan, Devin Bebout, Lachlan Bebout, Oona Bebout, Jackson Maino, and Valerie Maino. Gary is also survived by his dearest friend, a true brother in spirit and heart, Mauro Leonardo of Los Angeles, CA and his beloved partner of 20+ years, Michael Cohen of Swampscott, MA. In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his sister, Linda Bebout, who passed away in infancy, his brother Richard Bebout of Toronto, Canada, his nephew Milo Bebout, and grandnephew, Ryan Dolan, both of whom also passed away in infancy. Gary's final resting place is Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles CA., a place he frequented to pay respects to celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood, and Farrah Fawcett, to name a few. We love and miss you so very much, Gary. Rest well among the stars.

Ah - so sad to see this! I was looking through my "Rolodex" at the names of people I had worked with at UCLA Extension and saw Gary's - remembered how kind, encouraging and helpful he was when I was teaching there...now curious to see what had happened to him since we last spoke, years ago.

So sad to see that he's gone - and at a very young age. He was a very important person for me at UCLA, always someone I could go to for answers and aid.

RIP my friend. See you next life!

WOW. Just wow. I just found this information out. Gary was/is a great guy and enjoyed all of my times with my cousin Gary in greater Boston, MA and Los Angeles, CA.

Wonderful words for our beloved Gary, thank you. It's how we remember him. Gary lit up the room upon entry. Laughter and unsurpassed wit abounded. He also had a gift for composing hilarious comedic and cutting-edge jingles. Keep on dancing, singing, creating, and jesting our cosmic cousin. More love from another of the 38.

A piece of my heart is gone, but I will hold tight to our memories through our letters, texts, and pictures. I miss our weekly calls that left me in tears of laughter. I hope you're dancing with Donna Summer in heaven! Love you so...cousin Cindy
