June 22, 1947 - February 21, 2022
Arroyo Grande , California - Gary Robert Souza Passed away at home on February 21st 2022, at the age of 74.He was born June 22nd, 1947, in Hanford, Ca, to Edward and Zephrina Souza of Stratford, Ca. Graduated from Lemoore High School and College of the sequoias, Visalia, Ca. Gary Served in the U.S Army, Fort Lewis Washington. Dedicated to his career with the dept. of correction for 32 years, retiring as Chief Deputy Warden. His favorite hobbies were bird hunting and deep sea fishing in Baja and Alaska. He is survived by his wife and soulmate Betty for over 50 years: His twin Brother Larry Souza and Sister in law Sandy Souza, and all of his Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Zephrina Souza, Sister Carol Martella and Brother Mark Souza. At Gary's Request there will not be any memorial service. Rest in peace my love, until we meet again.

A year has passed since we all lost a wonderful man and dear friend in Gary. I had the honor of working closely with him from 1988 until I retired in 2003. We stayed in contact beyond retirement until his passing. I remember a talented colleague with a quick wit and intense loyalty. We served in both good times and bad, though the latter were few and meaningless in the long run. Gary used to bring smoked albicore into the office, and I remember his love of fishing. He was my close friend, supporter and confidante, and I totally miss those great conversations and friendly boosts when I needed them. He is forever on my mind as a true professional and loyal friend.

Prayers and condolences to you. I am so sorry for your loss. Gary was one of the finest men, and professionals to EVER work in the Department of Corrections. He was an icon too many due to his intellect, wisdom and integrity. It was an honor to work for him and a pleasure to be his friend.

Betty. Was truly sorry to learn of Gary´s passing. He was my boss in the associate Warden of program services. He was so understanding as I was on call with a beeper for my husbands liver transplant. He was a very caring person. May God help you during this time

Betty,
For 37 years, Gary remained a close friend and confidante. He was a true professional and solid leader who epitomized integrity and strong leadership. He was my Chief Deputy Warden when I served as Warden at CMC. It was my honor to call him my friend as we remained in contact through all those years. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Gary, rest in peace, Brother!

To Gary's loved ones, please accept my sincere condolences. Gary and I started our careers within months of each other, and it was my privilege to have known him and called him friend. Even in retirement, I've missed seeing him at the blackjack tables. Although saddened about his passing, it was my pleasure to have known the great person he was. May the special times you personally shared with Gary bring you some solace during this sad time.
