George T. Rosensteel

George T. Rosensteel passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the age of 74. He was a native of Baltimore, MD and longtime resident of River Ridge, LA. George was a member of the American Mathematical Society and the American Physical Society. He was an esteemed mathematician and a brilliant scientist who, over the course of his career, published hundreds of scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals, was a recipient of many National Science Foundation grants, and was invited to present his research at multiple international conferences. To quote one of his colleagues, "he was a scholars' scholar". George was a Professor of Physics at Tulane University for over forty years. Professor Rosensteel was a rare combination of a talented researcher and an excellent teacher. He loved mathematics, art, history, and classical music. He loved beauty and found it in everything. He pursued knowledge not for immediate monetary gain, but because he believed that a deeper understanding of how the world works makes us all better human beings. He was kind and generous with his knowledge and his time. George brought out the best in people, challenged his students, and encouraged them to reach their potential. He is remembered for his positive uplifting energy and his quick-witted and inexhaustible sense of humor. He is sorely missed. George is preceded in death by his parents, Marie E. Rosensteel and Walter Rosensteel. He is survived by his wife Tsetsa Dankova Rosensteel; and sister, Frances Rosensteel. A celebration of Professor Rosensteel's life will be announced at a later date.
