Gregory STOWERS Obituary

STOWERS, Gregory

Eugene

Gregory (Greg) Eugene Stowers died peacefully in his home while surrounded by his family on October 18, 2013, after his whole-hearted fight with glioblastoma. Being born and raised in Austin, attending Brentwood Elementary, Lamar Jr. High, McCallum High School, Austin Community College, and retiring in 2012 as a Sergeant with the Austin Police Department were many of his proud milestones as a life-long Austinite. Family and Friends will remember him as a provider, protector, dear friend, and most-loving husband and father.

He was proud to have experienced the birth of his three sons and provide guidance as they continued to grow and gain independence. He served the City of Austin for 20 outstanding service years and supported organizations throughout the community. He was a great challenge for many in his passion for basketball and enjoyed time on the water, boating and skiing.

He is survived by his best friend, true love and wife, Yvette Marie (Wohlers) Stowers, three sons, Matthew, Andrew, Nathan, and three step-daughters, Emalie, Juliana, and Gabriela.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 26, 2013 in the Memorial Chapel at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas.

An urn placement with police honors will follow the memorial service in the Hill Country Garden of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gregory's name to the Salvation Army or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

In the short time I got to know Greg. He was an entertaining, outgoing, upbeat person. Always had a smile on his face. Seemed to look for the best in situations. Every time I rode out with the Adam 300's (Gregs shift). He would tell the guys in showup funny stories from back in the day. It was my true pleasure to have the opportunity to be able to meet such a great man. I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers are with Greg's family and friends. God speed Greg!!!

I am saddened to hear of Greg's passing. Stowers came through the APD Academy while I was an instructor. I hardly ever said Stowers without Socha. I remember a traffic stop role play problem and the smile he gave me when I said it was okay to extracte the driver from the car and that sometimes we can toss verbal judo. Stowers had that quick smile and even quicker wit. I just want to say that I truely enjoyed those 6 1/2 months with Stowers. My prayer go out to his family.

Greg was one of the boys at the Cowan's house. He was my dear friend. We had so much fun together during high school. Like most we all went our separate ways after high school to start careers, families etc.. but you never lose that bond of someone you went all thru school with and share so many memories. I will now cherish my memories of Greg, He will be dearly missed. Blessings to you Yvette and your family, you will certainly be in my prayers.

His smile.....I will always remember that along with his sweet spirit and kind heart! A lot of us share a bond growing up together from elementary through high school that not all people can have or experience. I will cherish the memory of him walking me home from Brentwood with my books on top of his head. I am blessed to have been a part of his life. Rest in peace my friend!

I remember Greg always having a smile on his face and a kind heart. Greg was the one who'd make us laugh when we'd hang out at Patty's swimming pool in the summers and was Mrs. Cowan's favorite "stepson". May you smile and laugh with the best of them Greg, and may the Stowers family have peace knowing that Greg is in the hands of his maker.
