On Thursday Feb. 26, 2009, our dear mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, neighbor and friend, Greta Roslyn Parham, of 10309 Colemans Lake Road, Ford, Va., departed this life at the Thomas Palliative Care Unit, Massey Cancer Center, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va.
Greta will be remembered and missed by all that were fortunate enough to know her. We will remember her love of and zest for living, learning and life. We will remember her exactness in deed, speech, manner and appearance. We will remember her love of her family, her friends, her church, her travel, and her community. These are only a few of our "Favorite Things" to remember about Greta Roslyn Parham.
Born on Jan. 3, 1966, in Petersburg, Va., to the late Bert Parham Jr. and Catherine M. Parham of Ford, Va., Greta was indeed a gentlewoman who showered gracious kindness and high culture to all of those lives she touched. Greta pursued a career in nursing because of her love and compassion for people. Greta was a graduate of the Dinwiddie school system, and the Petersburg School of Nursing, and a certified phlebotomy technician. Greta also was a diligent and devoted employee of the Southside Virginia Training Center.
Greta joined Mount Poole Baptist Church at an early age, and remained active until her health declined. She was a member of the Sunday School, Youth Choir, Hospitality Committee, Mass Choir, the Young Adult Fellowship, and a youth advisor.
She leaves to celebrate her life a beloved son, Christopher James Parham of Ford; a loving and devoted mother, Catherine M. Parham of Ford; six brothers, Stefan Mayfield (Julia) of Dinwiddie, Carl Parham (Cynthia) of Petersburg, Tracy Parham of Richmond, Malcolm Parham of Ford, Bert Parham III of Petersburg, Ronald Parham (Elizabeth) of Chesterfield; two sisters, among them her devoted and loving sister, Terry Parham of Ford, Shirley Wyche (Stander) of Disputanta; nine aunts to include her two devoted and loving aunts, Sarah M. Hines (Nathaniel) of Chesterfield, and Fannie P. Hamilton (MSG Ret. Raymond) of Petersburg, Elnora Rollins, Otelia Evans, Louise Mayfield, Julia Mayfield, all of Chesterfield, Mattie P. Bell, Nannie P. Bonner of Petersburg, and Rose Parham of Chesterfield; uncles, Charles Parham of Petersburg, Edward Parham (Gloria) of Joilet, III, and Samuel Parham (Francis) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a host of many, many, many, devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at the Mt. Poole Baptist Church, Ford, Va., with the Rev. Stephen W. Pugh, pastor, officiating. The internment will follow at the Mount Poole Baptist Church Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at the funeral home.
