Gwendolyn Redwine Obituary

Redwine (McManis), Gwendolyn Diane

Gwendolyn Diane (McManis) Redwine, age 83, passed away at Trustwell Living at Fairfield Place, on August 3, 2025. She was born to Charles William and Inez (Pyles) McManis on January 19, 1942, in Carrollton, KY. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgetown College in 1964, with a BA in French and Latin. She also did graduate work at Miami University. She was named in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She received two grants for advanced study in French: one from the National Defense Education Act, and one from Ohio State for a summer's instruction in Lyon, France. She taught French at Mt. Healthy High School for 30 years. After retirement, she volunteered for Radio Reading Services for the Blind, tutored in the YWCA literacy program, worked as an ESL teacher for a woman from Ghana and another from Iran, and played piano for church services at Tri-County Extended Care for 12 years. Her passion for gardening earned her the name The Plant Lady. She spent the last years of her life tending an acre and a half and making lots of gardening friends. Her favorite memory was of the woman who stopped by one mid-winter to tell Diane that her garden always made her happy.

She was preceded in death by three siblings, Charles William McManis Jr., Mary Lou Manning, and Lois Robbins.

Diane is survived by nephews, Larry Robbins and Michael Manning, and niece, Deborah Waddell.

Her cremated remains will be interred in a family plot in Carrollton, KY.

Memorial contributions to Animal Friends Humane Society, 1820 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, OH 45011, would be appreciated.

One of the sweetest, most patient best teachers I ever had the pleasure of learning French from in high school. Such a calm demeanor. Wonderful lady. Thank you Mrs. Redwine. -Cathi , class of 1968.

Mme Redwine illustrated the very essence of a life well-lived. She taught me French at MHHS at the very beginning of her career as a teacher. I have never forgotten how gentle and caring she was...Reposez en paix, Mme Redwine.
