Helen Heffner Obituary

Helen West Heffner
Our beloved Helen West Heffner passed away peacefully at her home in Charlotte, NC on Easter Sunday March 23. She was 59.
She leaves to mourn her husband John Alan, son and daughter-in-law Dr. and Mrs. Alan Christopher, grandsons Alexander West and Andrew Covington, sisters Judith West Pharris and Juanita West Ferguson and countless family, friends and students.
Helen was born the first daughter of the late John Fox and Eva Huffines West in Detroit, MI on October 21, 1948. She was raised along the Roaring River in the lovely town of Gainesboro, TN. Following graduation from Jackson County High School (1966) and Tennessee Technological University (1970), Helen married John Alan Heffner of Gaithersburg, MD and subsequently settled in Burtonsville, MD. Helen delivered her enthusiasm for life in the classroom as an artful and charismatic teacher in the Montgomery County Public School system for 30 years. She touched countless lives and reaped enormous fulfillment in the nuturing of young minds. Helen had numerous cherished relationships and is remembered as a gracious and devoted friend. As the energy and heart of our family, Helen was at her best as a loving wife, mother and sister.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00am on Thursday, March 27th at Providence Road Church of Christ in Charlotte, NC. As we celebrate her life, Helen will always be remembered as a thoughtful woman with contagious energy, a sensitive soul and unconditional love for family and friends. We were blessed by her touch and we are deeply saddened by our loss.
A memorial arts and science education fund is being established in Helen's name for the benefit of students of Cloverly Elementary School in Cloverly, MD. More information will be forthcoming. Alternatively, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Charlotte at 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204 or via www.donatehospice.org.
