IRENE ADAMS Obituary
IRENE MARTIN ADAMS
Born September 24, 1925 in Washington, D.C., she passed away Thursday at 4:30 a.m. on March 2, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease first detected in July 2005. She died as she wished in her home in her bed with loved ones by her side. Her husband James Dana Adams (Army retired Colonel) passed away July 11, 2007. She married September 9, 1950. She is survived by her two sons, James Dana Adams, Jr. and William Marshall Adams who both live near. As an Army wife she lived in Massachusetts, Virginia, Germany, Arizona, and France; read voraciously; enjoyed hosting dinners for friends and family; learned sign language to communicate with her daughter-in-law; and she was a great tap dancer. As a child her brother Mike shot rubber bands at her feet and would shout "dance"! The same brother taught her to box when she was six. In the 1960's her sons attended an International School outside of Paris. She took French classes at the same time out of a combination of solidarity with her kids and curiosity. When her eldest son was in the 11th grade (1969) she read every book assigned to him in his English class. Even in her nineties people were struck by her sweet smile. She passed away with dignity and grace just as she had lived.A vistiaton for family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 12 from 2 to 5 p.m., at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203.

My condolences to the family. Losing a loved one to death is one of the most trying times we face, but take comfort knowing God supports and raises up those who are falling and bowed down. He is near to all those calling on him (Ps. 145: 14, 18).
