Jack L. Becker Sr.

Jack L. Becker, Sr. former President and Chairman of the Board of Dameron Pierson Co. died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the age of 88. He was the son of the late George J. Becker, Sr. and Louise Bruneau Becker. Mr. Becker was born and raised in New Orleans a graduate of St. Aloysius High School and attended Loyola University. He was a resident of Jefferson Parish for over 60 years. He started at Dameron Pierson Co. as a clerk in the Furniture Department in 1945, worked his way up through the ranks and was made Vice President in the mid 50's and was elected President in 1968. It was a position he held until 1992 when he semi retired and was elected Chairman of the board until 1997 when he fully retired. Some of the major projects he worked on were the offices at LA Land & Exploration Co. in the American Bank Bldg., 225 Baronne Bldg., LL&E Bldg., the private suites in the LA Superdome both for the state of LA and the New Orleans Saints, general offices and executive officers of Pan American Life Insurance Co. in the Pan American Commerce in the Place St. Charles Bldg. Mr. Becker served as Gov. of District 7 National Office Products Association which included the States of Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. He served in several furniture committees for National Office Production Association. He was on the dealer advisory council of Art Metal Inc., Jamestown, NY, Lehigh-Leopold Co. Burlington, Iowa and KI Inc. of Green Bay, WI. Mr. Becker was an avid golfer, a former president of Bernadotte Golf Club, a former president of City Park Golf Club, a former member of Colonial Golf Club and a former member of Metairie Country Club. Mr. Becker was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Elstrott Becker, second wife Rita Caamano Becker, two brothers George J. Becker, Jr., and Gerald W. Becker, four sisters Levyet Becker, Leslie Becker Estrade, Alva Becker Booker and Doris Becker Petre. He is survived by his two children Candace Becker Rooney (Michael) of Atlanta, GA and Jack L. Becker, Jr. (Carla) of Metairie, LA; two step-sons George Cundiff (Debbie) of New Orleans, LA and Bruce Cundiff (Yvonne) of Slidell, LA; five grandchildren Justin Becker, Kevin Becker, Mary Rooney Davidson of Jacksonville, FL, Joan Rooney Hester of Birmingham, AL and Lauren Rooney Berry of Atlanta, GA; four step-grandchildren Charles Cundiff and Andrew Cundiff of Columbia, SC and Cori Cundiff of Chalmette, LA and Craig Cundiff of Seattle, WA; ten great-grandchildren Jackson Becker, Mason Becker, Abigail Becker, Conner Becker, Miles Becker, Madeline Davidson, Liam Davidson and Ciara Davidson of Jacksonville, FL, Everett Hester and Graham Hester of Birmingham, AL; five step-great-grandchildren, Haley Cundiff, Logan Cundiff, Olivia Cundiff, Emma Cundiff and Miles Cundiff. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 11:00am.
