JACQUELINE MASON Obituary

MASON, Jacqueline R. (York) Age 88, of Walpole, formerly of Westwood, passed away on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Raymond York and Eileen (Manson) York. Jackie was a proud graduate of Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School, '54, where she earned an academic scholarship to Mount St. Vincent College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She returned to Boston to attend Boston City Hospital School of Nursing, where she won awards for excellence in pediatric nursing. There, she met the love of her life, Frank. They were married for more than 50 years, raising six children and caring for countless others, including their parents, exchange students, and many children visiting from other countries. She was active in many charitable organizations: she drove for FISH, made countless meals for Pine Street Inn, and served as president of the Chimney Corners Camp Moms Association and the Westwood Garden Club. Jackie was an active member of St. Timothy's Church. She sang in the choir, taught CCD, and later participated in the book club. Jackie was curious about everything and everyone, and remained a lifelong learner. She enjoyed meeting new people, and attending classes at BC Institute for Learning in Retirement, lectures at New Pond Village, and performances by the Met and BSO. She was an avid reader of literature and her beloved Boston Globe. Jacqueline was the devoted wife of the late Francis C. Mason, Jr., MD. Loving mother of Alicia Ann Bjornson and her husband, Eric, of Portsmouth, RI, John Francis Mason and his wife, Ellen Cogen, of Westhampton, Carolyn Mason Wholley and her husband, Edward, of Weymouth, Michael John Mason and his wife, Michelle, of Norwood, Francis Charles Mason, III and his wife, Kelly, of Somerville, Dr. Katherine Mason Hummel and her husband, Dr. Christopher, of Walpole. Cherished grandmother of Gunnar, Linnea, and Anja Bjornson, Elizabeth and Chloe Mason, Raymond, Shane and Juliana Mason, and Georgia Hummel. Great-grandmother of Bella Bjornson. Sister of Lynne (York) Bloomberg and the late David York; sister-in-law of Carol Slilaty and the late Dr. David Bloomberg and the late Shirley and Dr. Albert Voelkle. Many thanks to the staff at New Pond Village and the Good Shepherd Hospice, who provided compassionate care at the end of her life, and to her many dear friends and extended family members who called or visited in the last few weeks to brighten her day. Visitation in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St. (Rt.1A), NORWOOD, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 3 - 7 PM. Service in the funeral home at 6 PM. Interment will be held privately at the request of the family. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Jacqueline's memory to the New Pond Village, Walpole Employee Holiday Fund, 180 Main Street, Walpole, MA 02081 or to My Brother's Keeper, 534 Washington Street, North Easton, MA 02356.
