Jacqueline Barnes Sofge

Jacqueline Barnes Sofge, 86, of Miami, FL, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2014. Born in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Thomas and Katherine Edwards Barnes, Jacqueline graduated from Peabody Demonstration School and attended George Peabody College. Upon moving to Miami in 1957 when her husband accepted the position of Executive Director of The Miami Housing Authority and later "Little HUD" of Miami, "Jackie" raised her three children, volunteered within the community and worked during the 1980's for the Furr Management Company. She enjoyed spending time with the special ladies in her tennis group and could still be found on the courts in her eighties. Jacqueline was predeceased by her husband, Haley Elmo Sofge of Nashville, TN and her four older sisters, Mary Ruth Stone, Virginia Hulme, Sarah Katherine Walker and Judith Girard. Always the Southern lady, her southern drawl will be missed terribly by her children Judith Anne Bingham (Scott), Haley Elmo Sofge Jr. (Kristen) and Charles Edwards Sofge, her grandchildren Rebecca Becker, Tara Katie Kidwell, Jacqueline Creps and Charles Sofge along with " Mimi's" seven little great- grandchildren who brought her so much joy and their grandmother, Flora "Bowie" Schumer. Visitation will be held 5-10:00 PM on January 28, 2014 at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn, 11655 S.W. 117 Ave, Miami. A private service for the family will be held January 29, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse (samaritanspurse.org/800-665-2843), the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
