James L. ‘Jimmy’ Lawson, 66, of the Township of Berlin, Marathon County, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at his home with his wife at his side.
Jimmy was born August 27, 1958, in Shell Lake, WI, son of John and Marjorie (Peterson) Lawson. He married Roberta Abt on July 11, 1998, at the Rodeo Grounds in Spooner. They were blessed with 27 years of marriage and owned ‘Circle L Tack’ in the Township of Berlin. His passion for horses started at a very young age. He trained horses and was a competitive barrel racer. He was involved for many years with the Merrill Riders Club.
Jimmy grew up in a construction family as his father was a mason and builder. Jimmy learned the drywall trade from his dad and eventually had his own drywall company.
Survived by his wife Roberta Lawson, children, Jesse (Samantha) Lawson of Wausau, Jimmie Lee Lawson of Edgar, and Nicole (Chris) Hafele of Holliston, MA; bonus children, Anna (Brian) Tockman of Minneapolis, MN and Daniel (Patti) Abt of Shelby, NC; eight siblings; ten grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marjorie Lawson; sister, Linda (Raymond) Liczkowski.
The funeral service for Jimmy will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill. Rev. Greg Laska will officiate. The visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M., prior to the service.
