James Bishop Obituary

Bishop, Sr., James

James Floyd "Jim" Bishop, Sr of Montgomery went to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at 78 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, father Eustice Bishop of Bainbridge, GA, step-father DuPont Mobley of Montgomery and mother Ruby Mobley of Montgomery; and by his brothers, Marion Grover Bishop, Sr of Montgomery, Dennis Eugene Bishop, Sr of Montgomery and Bobby Wayne Bishop of Cottondale.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Price Bishop of Montgomery; his sons and daughters-in-law James Floyd Bishop, Jr and Cynthia Robertson Bishop of Orange Beach, Price Gregory Bishop and Jacquelyn Gulledge Bishop of Montgomery and Edgar Gulliermo Diaz and Maria Isabel Diaz of Montgomery; and his grandchildren James Samuel Bishop of Montgomery, Paul Reynolds Bishop of Montgomery, Ann Price Bishop of Montgomery, Cynthia Joy Bishop of Montgomery, Julialynn Maria Bishop of Montgomery, Adrianna Isabel Diaz of Montgomery and Penelope Christina Diaz of Montgomery.

Jim was born in Bainbridge, GA on September 25, 1939. He attended Sydney Lanier High School. He began his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama and completed it at Huntingdon College. He faithfully gave back to both institutions, by both fund raising and by donating athletic scholarships to the University of Alabama, and through his involvement with the School of Business at Huntingdon College. With his oldest brother Marion, he founded Imperial Cabinets in 1964, which became Jim Bishop Cabinets in 1968. He retired from the company in 2009. His passions were gardening, deep sea fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Young Meadows Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Young Meadows Presbyterian Church at 1:30 p.m., with Dr James Simoneau officiating, followed by a time of visitation. Max Keith Norman, Paul Jackson Gulledge, Charles Leonard Hamby and Bert Louis Molina are the Honorary Ushers. All employees and vendors of Jim Bishop Cabinets, both past and current, are Guests of Honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be considered to his favorite charity: The Salvation Army of Montgomery, 900 Maxwell Blvd, Montgomery, AL 36104 or to Young Meadows Presbyterian Church, 5780 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36116.

Our sincere sympathies to the Bishop Family. Ginny and I have fond memories of Jim and Judy through the years. Of course he and I grew up together in West End and graduated together from Sidney Lanier High School in 1957. We were extremely close through the years and I will remember those good times we shared together for the rest of my life. Jim was a super individual and I will miss him dearly.

It is with great sadness that we heard the news. Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Mr. Jim Bishop, Sr. was an exceptional person who touched the lives of so many people. Both of us, along with our students at Huntingdon College have appreciated his friendship, his wisdom, and his generosity. We are all very thankful for having known "Jim Sr." May his soul rest in peace.

My condolences to Aunt Judy, Jim Jr. , Price, and their wives and children. May God be with you always.
I ponder my thoughts about the many, many good memories I have growing up with Uncle Jim dragging me along wherever the family went, allowing me to be part of what ever I wanted.
Uncle Jim was a good man, who in my eyes, felt everyone deserved an opportunity. No matter your past, many men and women got the chance to step up in life as long as they were willing. He was a fair man, who shared what he had with whomever wanted to be a part of the event. He had a giving, sharing heart. He was a great father, husband, and in my case, Uncle. I miss his laughter, his smile, and hearing him tell me I was an ugly baby. No matter where the family would gather, he always found a picture of me as a baby, and showed it to everyone jokingly, and would laugh and carry on about how I was an ugly baby.
I will always remember his face, his laughter, and his smile. My heart hurts deeply.
