James J. Dempsey

June 8, 1933 - July 8, 2025

Leawood, Kansas - James J. Dempsey, 92, of Leawood, Kansas passed away July 8, 2025. Jim was born June 8, 1933 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to John and Alice Dempsey. He was an Army Veteran. He received his Bachelors degree at the University of Scranton and his Masters of Business from Avila University in Kansas City Missouri. Jim retired from the Austin Company as Controller after more than 30 years. He started his career in Scranton and moved to Kansas City with Austin establishing the Midwest district in 1974.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Dempsey; his son, James Dempsey; and his parents, John and Alice Dempsey. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Rhoads (David) and Laura Luther; son, Thomas Dempsey (Nichole) and grandchildren, Ian and Jason Rhoads, Jack Dempsey and Alyssa Luther.

A private family service will be scheduled later this month. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas. Online condolences may be left at www.mcgilleyhoge.com.
