I am so sorry to now know about Jay's death. He was a special mentor to me while in my derm residency in 1970-71.
Jay was one of two special MDs who truly inspired me without the usual braggadocio I'd hear from others. I moved to Miami after residency, so we'd been out of touch, clearly.
He was kind, clear-spoken and a master at his profession.
Rest in Eternal Peace, Jay. Condolences to the Barnetts of which Jay was the only one I knew.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Dr Barnett!! I met Dr Jay Barnett about a year before I got married, he helped thru a very difficult time in my life. When I got married about 25 years ago in Minnesota I received a beautiful wedding present from him and his staff. He always had a smile on his face when he saw me and never failed to ask me to see pictures of my four kids. What a wonderful man, I will miss him. R.I.P Dr Barnett

I remember when I was a little girl I would sometimes get scared of seeing Dr. Barnett because he always commanded such a big presence, and it intimidated me. But those slight moments of fear always went unfounded because he was in fact the opposite of all things scary. He was warm, open, kind, and most of all, caring. He always had a smile on his face whenever he saw me and always endearingly referred to me as "kiddo", even long after I've grown out of the nickname.
My mother Nappi is one of Dr. Barnett's long-time 'girls' so I've known him my entire life. He met me as a baby, watched me grow up, and even offered me my first job. He was there to give me sage advice as I was heading off to college, insisted on meeting my boyfriend turned husband, and beamed at me with pride when I shared the news with him that I was expecting a baby girl. Despite being Nappi's daughter, Dr. Barnett always cared for and treated me as if I was one of his own.
I never got a chance to formally tell him this so I wanted to at least say it here: Dr. Barnett, thank you for all your love and support all these years. You've provided not just my mother with an opportunity of a lifetime, but through her you were able to offer myself and the rest of my family great opportunities as well. I never truly thought I'd ever meet a person with a true heart of gold that was as genuine and caring as you. I am eternally grateful to have met and known you, and your memories will live on forever in my heart.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the Barnett Family during this time. Dr. Barnett has a legend in the Dermatology field and I have great memories as his sales representatives for one of his favorite products. Visiting Dr. Barnett and his staff has always been special to me- he was a great teacher, innovator- and kind person. He loved his family and always made mention of his beautiful daughter Channing and would give me advice and always well wishes. He will be missed but I feel honored to have had the pleasure of working with him.
