Capko, Jerome
Capko, Jerome M. "Jerry", 70, Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 15, 2013. He was born in Streator, IL on June 15, 1943. He served as a police officer in Illinois before moving to Arizona in 1980. He worked at APS for many years and remained in close contact with his many friends from his time there. Those friends, along with countless others have been of enormous comfort and support to him and his family during his illness. Strangers were never strangers for very long with Jerry-he made friends everywhere he went. He touched the lives and hearts of everyone who knew him. He loved nothing in life more than his sons David and Scott, daughters in law Kristen and Kellie, his granchildren Jacob, Karlee, Gracie and Alyssa as well as his father Robert Smelcer, sisters Pat Ellis and Shirley Vaughan and brother Edward "Bud" Capko. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Ruth "Trinkie" Smelcer and brother "Dick" Capko. His nieces and nephews also held a very special place in his heart and he truly enjoyed every moment with them. Dad-We love you and miss you more than words can ever say. You will be forever missed by us and all of your family and friends. Services will be held December 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation held one hour prior at Phoenix Memorial Park and Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix, Arizona. This news leaves a very big hole in my heart. Jerry was a very special friend who was always there with a smile. I have missed talking to him for several years and wondered how he was doing. I have the great privilege of saying I am Jerry's daughter in law. Our hearts are breaking because he is no longer here on earth with us but I know he's sitting up there surrounded by his mom, brother , old and new friends telling them all about his boys and family. He might even have a cream soda vodka drink in hand as he loved Dave to make him these. I am sure he's stopped to chat it up with the new friends he's already made up there! We've spent a lot of time waiting to get out of restaurants, Cardinals games (well everywhere really) because Jerry had stopped to talk with someone he had never met before-he was the kindest sweetest man.Thank you Jerry for always being there for us and being such a good role model for your boys. My girls, in turn, have a dad that loves them beyond measure and would move the heavens and earth for them. I know you're our angel now and that is comforting but I sure miss you here. We all love and miss you.

Didn't have the privilege/fun of being around Jerry much as I would have liked since I live in upstate NY. But when I did visit, we had lively conversations, lots of laughs, & stories to swap. He was a wonderful dad & grandfather. I had so much respect for him. Now Jerry is a star forever! May his reward be as great as his giving was.
