Jimmie Tynes Obituary

Mrs. Jimmie Joy Tynes passed away on February 26, 2023, at her home with her daughter by her side. She was the daughter of Ida and James Lease of Pittsburg, Kansas. They named her Jimmie after her daddy and Joy, because she was "joy" to them. As a young woman, she had a sense of adventure and traveled around the country. While working for the telephone company in Wichita, Kansas, this Kansas Sunflower fell in love with an engineer, Chuck Tynes, who was a North Carolina Tarheel. His love of the South brought them to Georgia where she continued to work for the telephone company and later in education. Her students whom she had follow from Eastvalley to East Cobb to Wheeler often asked her if she was going to college with them! Her work in education continued as she was an honorary member of the Foreign Language Association of Georgia. The Board lovingly called her "Mother," and she was so proud of her highly educated "children." She retired after a long-distinguished career in education.

As a 64-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, her philanthropic endeavors were many. She served as a judge for St. Jude Capture for Kids, worked for and in the office of Easter Seals, organized "Hats for Hope" events and much more. She served many officers on the State Board and Southeastern Regional Council and was named Woman of the Year by them. For many years she served as Program Chair and Corresponding Secretary of the Peach Star Depression Glass Club. Again, she was learning and sharing knowledge about glass and other collectibles of historical value with so many people.

She and Chuck had one daughter, Joy Lynn Tynes. She loved supporting her in all her activities in Girl Scouts, Rainbows, ESA, FLAG and education. Together they escorted many groups of students to Europe and shared their love of the French language, history and travel.

Her creative side could be found in her home and in the artistic works of china and ceramic that she painted and created. She was the "Hostess with the Mostess".

A lovely lady, a Georgia Peach with a heart of gold who will be missed, but remembered with love by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 4 at 2 PM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 until 7 Friday and again Saturday from 1 until 2 PM at the funeral home.

Dear sweet Mrs. Tynes. She was our favorite substitute teacher at Eastvalley, East Cobb Middle School and Wheeler High School. I was so happy when I started working for Dr Bakke in 1990 to see that she was a patient. I enjoyed seeing and talking to her for many years. She was a southern lady if I ever saw one! Joy Lynn and Greg, you are in my prayers.
